After six years and seven seasons, ABC’s Station 19 came to a fiery end. In the Station 19 series finale, the tight-knit Seattle Fire Station 19 family was tasked with containing a rapidly spreading wildfire that was threatening their city. Under dire conditions, which included enough wind to fuel a literal fire tornado, the Station 19 team pulled through. Led by series’ protagonist Captain Andy Herrera (Jaina Lee Ortiz), the headstrong daughter of 19’s storied Captain Pruitt Herrera (Miguel Sandoval), the group saved hikers from the blaze and even delivered a pregnant woman’s child near the fire line.

Ahead of the Station 19, season 7 finale, several characters’ fates seemed up in the air. For starters, Theo Ruiz (Carlos Miranda), who left 19 amid budget cuts to become a firefighter-for-hire, made a sacrificial play out in the field that left him crushed by a tree. Meanwhile, fan-favorite firefighter Maya Bishop (Danielle Savre) was surrounded by flames on all sides. For its final outing, the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off fanned the flames of its dramatic threads. Excitingly, however, there are several key Station 19 characters who could still return to Grey’s Anatomy in the future.

Dr. Ben Warren

Jason George

Ben Warren (Jason George) joined Grey’s Anatomy in season 6 as Dr. Miranda Bailey’s (Chandra Wilson) love interest. One of Grey’s Anatomy‘s best couples, Ben and Miranda have weathered their fair share of challenges, from learning to navigate Bailey’s obsessive-compulsive disorder diagnosis to remaining strong amid Ben’s less-than-conventional career path. Initially an anesthesiologist at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, Ben pursued his passions several times. First, he trained to become a surgeon and, after getting a rush from practicing medicine amid crises, became a part of Station 19 — initially without Bailey knowing.

Heading into the series finale, the Grey’s Anatomy character’s Station 19 fate was very much on the line. Despite his penchant for heroics and running toward danger, Ben Warren survived the wildfire. In the final moments of Station 19, Ben pulls Captain Herrera aside to tell her some big news. After sustaining some injuries that have made him feel a little less well-suited to firefighting, Ben has decided to leave the department and return to his surgical residency after a years-long gap. Ben’s reveal pretty much ensures that Dr. Miranda Bailey’s husband is returning for Grey’s Anatomy season 21.

Dr. Carina DeLuca-Bishop

The sister of the late Dr. Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti), Dr. Carina DeLuca first appeared on Grey’s Anatomy in season 14. An OB/GYN attending at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, Carina initially convinces Bailey to fund her groundbreaking research, dates Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw), and makes a big impact on the hospital’s approach to treating pregnant patients. Like Ben Warren, Carina eventually jumped ship to Station 19, becoming a principal member of the cast in season 3. Since then, one of Station 19‘s best couples has been Carina and her wife, Maya Bishop (Danielle Savre).

At the end of Station 19 season 7, Carina learns she’s finally pregnant. Thankfully, the wildfire doesn’t get in the way of her and Maya’s happiness. Instead, Carina spends her final Station 19 storyline helping a pregnant woman give birth in the wildfire-swept woods outside of Seattle. With Ben’s help, Carina suits up and successfully delivers the baby in the field. Flash forwards show that Carina and Maya have twins and continue to be incredibly happy. Since Dr. DeLuca-Bishop first appeared on Grey’s Anatomy, it makes sense that she’d return to the series.

Maya DeLuca-Bishop

Danielle Savre

Married to Dr. Carina DeLuca, Maya Bishop has been one of Station 19‘s main characters since the show’s first season. The youngest fire captain in Seattle and the first female fire captain in Station 19’s history, she’s fiercely determined. In Station 19 season 7’s penultimate episode, Maya becomes surrounded by the wildfire. Seemingly unable to escape the blaze, Bishop is rescued by the rest of 19, who ensure that Maya and Carina have one of the show’s happiest endings. With Carina likely back at Grey Sloan full-time, it seems likely that Maya Bishop will appear on Grey’s Anatomy.

Andy Herrera

Jaina Lee Ortiz

In many ways, Andy Herrera is essentially the Meredith Grey of Station 19. While the series is an ensemble show, much of the spinoff has revolved around Andy’s story. Confident and determined, Andy illustrates why she became a fire captain in Station 19‘s series finale ending. With the team pinned down under fire blankets, Herrera secretly slips away into the dangerous surroundings to find help. After saving the day, Herrera lands herself in Grey Sloan. Despite some burns, Andy survives, and becomes the fire chief of the Seattle Fire Department, making a guest appearance on Grey’s Anatomy season 21 likely.

Jack Gibson

Grey Damon

A former lieutenant and firefighter, Jack Gibson (Grey Damon) works as a dispatcher in Station 19‘s later outings. Despite Gibson’s minor role, the Station 19 series finale proves that Andy and Jack are an endgame couple. While Andy is unconscious in the hospital, she dreams of Jack’s proposal; when she wakes up at Grey Sloan, Jack Gibson is there to hold her hand. While Jack doesn’t have as big of a reason to appear on Grey’s Anatomy as other Station 19 characters, his connection to Andy could land him a guest spot.

Robert Sullivan

Boris Kodjoe

The former Battalion Chief of the Seattle Fire Department and current lieutenant at Station 19, Robert Sullivan (Boris Kodjoe) joined Station 19 as a series regular during its sophomore outing. A former Marine and scout sniper, Sullivan has a long-standing history with Fire Chief Natasha Ross (Merle Dandridge). The Station 19 finale confirms that Sullivan and Ross finally get married, despite initially envisioning very different futures. While Robert Sullivan isn’t as directly involved in the goings-on at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, the Seattle-based firefighter could show up in future seasons of Grey’s Anatomy.

Sean Beckett

Josh Randall

A Station 19 firefighter who joined the series in season 5, Sean Beckett (Josh Randall) has had a particularly difficult life. Beckett’s ex-wife, Sarah, lives across the country, both of his parents are dead, and his brother refuses to speak with him. In the Station 19 finale, Beckett puts his life on the line for his colleagues because he feels he has nothing to lose. Of course, Beckett’s Station 19 family reminds him that he does have loving people in his life. Unlike Vic Hughes (Barrett Doss) and Travis Montgomery (Jay Hayden), Beckett sticks around Seattle in the aftermath of Station 19‘s fiery conclusion.

Natasha Ross

Merle Dandridge

In the show’s final wildfire-fighting outing, Natasha Ross is Fire Chief for the Seattle Fire Department — and about to marry Robert Sullivan, who she met as an active-duty Marine back in 2005. Ross didn’t join the series until Station 19 season 5, but the passionate and commanding leader has had a significant impact on the show. In the series finale, Ross is on the ground with Station 19; in a great full-circle character moment, Ross even defers to Captain Herrera for orders. Since Ross survives the wildfire and seemingly remains in Seattle, where she and her husband are friends with Ben and Miranda, Natasha could very well appear on Grey’s Anatomy.

Theo Ruiz

Carlos Miranda

A former lieutenant at Station 19, Theo Ruiz quit to help the with the station’s budgetary issues. During the wildfire scare, Ruiz is a firefighter working for a private company, Bennett Fire & Ambulance, but proves to still care about his former Station 19 colleagues more than anything. After making a daring rescue, Ruiz is crushed by a tree and rushed to Grey Sloan by Ben Warren. In the Grey’s Anatomy season 20 finale, Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) and succeed in saving Theo’s life, which means that the Station 19 character could very well appear on the medical drama in future outings.
