American Idol season 22 winner Abi Carter’s first single, “This Isn’t Over,” has debuted on the Billboard Digital Songs Sales chart. Abi, a 21-year-old musician from Indio, California, wowed the judges–Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan–with her stunning rendition of “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish. The jaw-dropping performance earned her one of the three platinum tickets of the season. Abi won American Idol season 22, defeating runner-up Will Moseley and third place finisher Jack Blocker during the season finale. Her final competition performance of the season was a spirited rendition of “This Isn’t Over.”

According to Forbes, Abi’s single, “This Isn’t Over,” debuted at No. 23 on the Digital Song Sales chart. Billboard publishes this list every week to show which tracks actually sell the most copies. According to Luminate, in its first tracking frame, “This Isn’t Over” sold 2,436 copies. It’s possible that the song could end up on other charts as well, especially since it’s still new.

American Idol season 22 runner-up Will Moseley’s single, “Good Book Bad,” also opened on the Digital Song Sales chart, at No. 14. Luminate reports that it sold 3,457 copies. However, this wasn’t Will’s music chart debut. Will’s original song, “Gone For Good,” which he sang during his audition, and later for his Top 14 celebration song, went to number two on the iTunes country charts. On American Idol, Will said that he saw that he was one spot behind Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” and one spot ahead of Luke Combs’ “Where the Wild Things Are.”

It’s exciting to see Abi and Will’s music is already making a splash after American Idol season 22. During the FOX era of the show, the television and music industry was very different, and the winner and runner-up’s singles usually performed very well. People would run out to buy them in the days following the finale, but times have changed. It’s impressive that Abi and Will are already making an impact on the music industry after their runs on the show.

American Idol season 22 was a very competitive season, and there will certainly be even more successes for the finalists as time goes on. Abi deserved her win, and it’s wonderful to see that a song that she wrote, “This Isn’t Over,” is her first single. She stayed true to herself through the whole competition, delivering authentic performances. It’s easy to imagine her skyrocketing to the top of the pop charts. Will also never veered from his country roots, and is on his way to becoming a country superstar. It’s going to be thrilling to see what Abi and Will do next after American Idol.

American Idol

American Idol is a reality singing competition that adds to the international “Idol” brand, conceived initially in the U.K. as Pop Idol. Holding massive auditions across the U.S., American Idol invited several contestants to perform in front of a panel of judges that would determine whether or not they’d go on to future rounds for a chance at competing in the fully televised premiere of the show. Contestants are voted off each week by American participation via voting through various mediums, and the winner of the competition would be given a contract with a record label to secure a future as America’s next musical idol.
