Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Station 19 series finale!

A major character from Station 19 is in talks to come back to Grey’s Anatomy following the end of the spinoff, going back to the series they were originally introduced in. Set in the same universe as the hospital drama, the series focused on its titular station within Seattle’s Fire Department. This included some familiar faces from the parent series showing up, with one in particular, Dr. Ben Warren (Jason George), who was a main character right up through Station 19 season 7.

Now, Deadline has confirmed George is in talks to return to Grey’s Anatomy as Ben following the end of Station 19. While it’s unclear how big of a role he would have upon returning, he allegedly is expected to return as a series regular. This wouldn’t be his first time as a regular on the show, having been one in season 14 prior to the spinoff’s start.

What Ben’s Return Might Mean For Grey’s Anatomy Season 21

At the end of Station 19, the team manages to survive a massive wildfire threatening to wreck havoc in Seattle, with everyone except for Kate (Kiele Sanchez) making it out alive. During the finale, Ben mentions that he wants to complete his surgical residency, a decision that could easily see him come back for Grey’s Anatomy season 21. While this doesn’t confirm that he’ll appear soon, if he jumps right back into his medical practices, then he could show up once the medical drama returns.

However, Ben isn’t the only character from the spinoff who might come back to its parent series. Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato) is another possible candidate to return, since she was originally introduced in a recurring role on the show. However, a multi-year time jump in Station 19 revealed her wife Maya was now in charge of the firehouse, a story that doesn’t seem like it will be told onscreen. This makes it impossible to predict if the Grey’s Anatomy alum will come back anytime soon, especially since she’ll be busy raising the couple’s baby soon too.

While the Station 19 series finale means saying goodbye to many characters who probably won’t be coming back, it also opens the door to new beginnings for some like Ben. Although it’s clear where his story goes because of his own flash forward with Miranda and their adopted daughter, his return to Grey’s Anatomy can bridge the gap, even if his ending is set in stone. However, with the medical drama coming back later this year, it may not be too long until more of his story gets told.
