The new Stephen King film The Long Walk gets a notable production update. The Long Walk is a 1979 King dystopian horror novel surrounding a futuristic American where a main source of entertainment is watching a group of 100 teenage boys walk along the highway U.S. Route 1 continuously, not allowed to stop without the risk of being shot to death. Last year, it was announced that a film adaptation of The Long Walk would be coming from The Hunger Games director Franics Lawrence.

As per Collider, The Long Walk has been given a key update in its filming. The King adaptation is now set to start production in July. The casting is currently in progress given the summer start date, and some of the film’s key roles are reportedly still open.

The Long Walk Is Part Of An Exciting Slew Of Upcoming King Adaptations

While very little else has been revealed about The Long Walk, the production update for the King adaptation is nonetheless exciting. Published back in 1979 but written in the 1960s while King was a college student, The Long Walk is one of his earliest works, but has never before managed to get a completed film adaptation. Lawrence has proven himself as a director through The Hunger Games series, so it will be interesting to see what he does with the King film, which shares some similar themes to the world of Panem and its sadistic Capitol.

The Long Walk is not the only exciting King adaptation that is coming down the pike. Horror legend Mike Flanagan is also set to direct an adaptation of King’s novel The Life of Chuck, which follows the life of a man who is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Unlike something like The Long Walk, which falls more securely into the horror genre, The Life of Chuck is far more genre-bending in concept, making it one of the more interesting King stories to adapt.

Another high-profile adaptation is Edgar Wright’s version of The Running Man, which has cast Anyone But You star Glen Powell in the lead role. Other upcoming adaptations include adaptations of The Institute, The Monkey, and The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. It is good that The Long Walk will be filming soon, because it will be competing for attention with a number of other King adaptations.
