Before CBS can even do it, an exciting NCIS project brings together Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ best team for the first time in a decade. Being on the air for two decades, cast reshuffles are not new to the police procedural. Over the years it has lost some major players, with NCIS season 21 marking the first time that it doesn’t have any original characters left as series regulars. While Sean Murray’s Tim McGee was introduced in the very first season, he wasn’t part of the show’s inaugural team, since he debuted in the middle of the year.

Impressively, however, the show weathered every single exit that it has experienced — even its biggest one when Mark Harmon decided to leave as Gibbs in NCIS season 19. The transition to Gary Cole’s Alden Parker being the new Major Case Response Team (MCRT) was unusually smooth, all things considered. Still, while all versions of the squad have been effective in their job, viewers naturally have their favorites. Season 21 secretly revealed NCIS’ best roster, and before the main series gets to assemble them, a new project tied to the show is reuniting Gibbs’ outstanding team.

Ahead of Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo’s spinoff, NCIS: Tony And Ziva, the pair is teaming up for an NCIS rewatch podcast. Titled Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch, the endeavor will see them talking to various people from the franchise. The trailer confirms that Murray will be a guest star, effectively bringing Gibbs’ best agents together for the first time, albeit in a different setting, since Ziva left at the start of NCIS season 11. Weatherly and De Pablo have reprised their respective roles after their exits separately, meaning that they have never all shared the screen since 2013.

The trio played Gibbs’ field agents as part of NCIS’ best team. Rounding up their squad is David McCallum’s Ducky Mallard, who was still their medical examiner at that time, and Pauley Perrette’s Abby Sciuto. The trailer for Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch, only reveals snippets of the upcoming episodes, but the main hope is that Harmon will make an appearance. Perhaps they’re saving him for the last episode, but it would be great to see the veteran actor in the podcast, especially since he had been on the show the longest besides McCallum.

Considering their history, NCIS: Tony And Ziva has a long wishlist of loyal fans. Not much has been revealed about the project thus far, other than it will stream on Paramount+ and will follow the pair as they go on the run across Europe with their daughter, Tali. Before that, however, seeing both of them back in Navy Yard’s MCRT office will be a great way to launch the offshoot, especially since it will reunite Tony and Ziva officially with McGee. The NCIS franchise loves backdoor pilots anyway, and this would be the perfect opportunity to do that.
