National Geographic is ready to honor the Allied soldiers of color in World War 2, who are often unfairly left out of the historical conversation, with its upcoming docuseries Erased: WW2’s Heroes of Color. The four-part project premieres June 3 on NatGeo before streaming on Disney + and Hulu the next day, beginning with “Pearl Harbor” and “D-Day” episodes before following up with “Dunkirk” and “Battle of the Bulge” on June 10. Acclaimed actor Idris Elba (Sonic the Hedgehog 2) narrates and serves as executive producer, injecting a modern voice into the past narrative.

Screen Rant is proud to present an exclusive clip from Erased: WW2’s Heroes of Color, which offers a closer look at the events of Pearl Harbor through the eyes of one of the Black soldiers present. Unlike World War 2 movies in their varying degrees of accuracy, the new National Geographic docuseries pieces together a reenactment that adds back the people of color, such as Clark Simmons shown in the video below, who have been “erased” by previous historical records.

Erased: WW2’s Heroes Of Color Is Must-See TV For History Buffs

The trailer for Erased: WW2’s Heroes of Color highlighted how historical dramatization is a necessary component to understanding the legacy of World War II, especially given the minimal archival footage that survives in certain cases. Due to the implicit bias and existing hierarchies, it is sometimes hard to pinpoint the true stories of the many men and women of color who made great contributions and sacrifices to the war.

Elba guides viewers through a major World War II battle in each episode, from Pearl Harbor and D-Day to Dunkirk and the Battle of the Bulge, and introduces the audience to important heroes. While the segment above focuses on Clark Simmons, the “Pearl Harbor” episode will also touch on the stories of fellow mess attendants Doris Miller and George Bland. Erased: WW2’s Heroes of Color is produced by October Films and Idris Elba’s company 22Summers, and his participation calls back to his own grandfather’s role in the war.
