While Captain America may be worthy of wielding Thor’s hammer, Deadpool doesn’t quite make the cut. But in true Wade Wilson fashion, the Merc with a Mouth has found a workaround to being barred from this exclusive Mjölnir-wielding club by bringing his own special hammer. Answering the age-old question, “What do you bring to a hammer fight?” Deadpool’s answer is clear: a bigger hammer, of course.

Sorry, Thor, But Wade’s New Hammer For Deadpool Kills Marvel Universe Makes Mjölnir Look Like a Cheap Toy

Todd Nauck’s Deadpool Kills Marvel Universe variant cover is as visually impressive as it is hilariously creative. It features Deadpool wielding a massive hammer, with a defeated Thor lying in the background next to his discarded hammer. Wade’s new weapon is particularly notable, as it is a Deadpool-themed parody of Mjölnir. Instead of the sledgehammer appearance of Thor’s hammer, Deadpool’s hammer resembles a typical claw hammer. Additionally, the face of the hammer sports Deadpool’s mask insignia, making Wade’s masked face the last thing someone would see before getting bludgeoned.

Deadpool’s hammer also features a massive jackknife on top, a smoking clip, and two small pouches on the side. With these enhancements and its sheer size, Wade’s hammer makes Thor’s Mjölnir pale in comparison. Nauck’s cover hints that the mercenary would emerge victorious in a fight against the Avenger, as the art suggests a particularly brutal hit struck Thor with enough force to dislodge Mjölnir from his hand and embed him in a brick wall. Whether this would be the true outcome of a Deadpool vs. Thor fight is for each fan to decide.

The Worthiness of Wade Wilson: Has Deadpool Ever Lifted Thor’s Hammer in the Comics?

Deadpool lifting Thor's hammer (fake hammer Loki)

In Deadpool #37 (1999) by Christopher Priest, Jim Calafiore, Mark McKenna, and Shannon Blanchard, Wade is depicted lifting a version of Mjölnir and transforming into a version of Thor. However, Deadpool isn’t wielding the real Mjölnir; rather, he wields a knockoff of the hammer conjured up by Loki, who made the true Mjölnir invisible. Hence, while Wade may not be worthy of wielding Thor’s hammer, the mercenary has proven in Nauck’s cover that he is more than willing to get inventive by creating his own version of Mjölnir. Thus, Thor better watch out because it’s HAMMER TIME in the world of Deadpool.

Thor

Associated with the mythical realm of Asgard, Thor is a Marvel Comics hero who channels the power of thunder to slay their foes. Though the name is chiefly tied to Thor Odinson, several other characters also take on the role of God of Thunder, including Odinson’s love interest, Jane Foster. Odin is portrayed as a physically imposing hero with incredible strength and typically wields the dwarven forged hammer, Mjolnir.
