One Piece’s latest episode was largely a transitional episode, but it still had a great setup for future storylines that will make episode #1107 and beyond great to watch. As always, there’s plenty to be excited about with the One Piece anime, and that, of course, makes the anticipation for One Piece episode #1107 incredibly high.

What Happened In One Piece Episode 1106

Bonney Got a First Glimpse of Her Father’s Painful Past

Luffy and Zoro guarding Lucci and Kaku

In One Piece episode #1106, “Trouble Occurs! Seek Dr. Vegapunk!”, while a revived Sentomaru commanded a fleet of Mk. III Pacifistas, the latest and most powerful models of the regular versions, to apprehend the remaining government soldiers running around Egghead, Bonney entered the bubble containing Kuma’s memories. The process brought Bonney to a field with a large, crying child dressed in rags, and while she didn’t recognize him at first, it soon became clear that the crying child Bonney saw was Kuma as a child, although the scene ended before anything else could be revealed.

Meanwhile, all of the Straw Hats were finally together again, but they now had two problems to deal with: Dr. Vegapunk was still missing, and the Frontier Dome had been mysteriously reactivated, thus trapping them inside the Labophase. The Straw Hats and Satellites split up with most going to look for Vegapunk while Luffy and Zoro kept an eye on Lucci and Kaku. The last scene of the episode then changed to Morgans wanting to write libel about Luffy holding Vegapunk hostage, something that was immediately criticized by Vivi, whom Morgans had given sanctuary after the Levely alongside Wapol.

One Piece Is Set to Return to One of Its Biggest Mysteries

Fans Will Soon Find Out What Happened During the Levely

Vivi and Wapol

With how One Piece episode #1106 ended, the anime is set to finally return to one of One Piece’s biggest mysteries: what happened at the Levely. The events of the Levely have been a major mystery for years, especially following recent statements of Sabo killing Cobra and Vivi mysteriously disappearing, but now, Vivi’s reappearance suggests that One Piece will start addressing what happened at the Levely soon. Naturally, that sort of information will likely be far removed from what the Straw Hats are doing, but it will still be great to finally know what happened there, regardless.

One Piece Makes the Most Out of a Largely Boring Episode

While Mostly Uneventful, the Episode Set Up Future Developments

One Piece episode #1106 wasn’t that great of an episode, mostly existing to set up later developments, but the anime certainly did what it could to keep things interesting. For starters, the character interactions in One Piece episode #1106 provided a lot of comedy and heart from everyone involved, so every scene was at least fun to watch. Granted, that’s more thanks to Eiichiro Oda’s writing than anything the anime did, but the anime still managed to adapt things in a way that made sense along with a few extra scenes, so that’s still worth praising.

The direction for episode #1106 was also great to see. Not only were the art and animation consistently gorgeous from start to finish, as has been common with the Egghead arc, but it also featured many moments of notably stellar animation; specifically, the scene of the Mk. III Pacifista attacking the government agents featured truly breathtaking art and animation. There was no need for a largely transitional episode to try so hard with its animation, but the fact that it did is incredibly appreciated and does a lot to make it worth watching when it might not have been, otherwise.

The direction for episode #1106 was especially strong with the beginning of Kuma’s memories. Not only were there a lot of unique camera angles and artwork for the scene, most notably in its opening with everything in black and white, and while he didn’t get to do much, Nobuhiko Okamoto’s delivery as a young Bartholomew Kuma perfectly sold his sadness and how everyone should be ready for a truly tragic backstory to unfold. Overall, the One Piece anime made the most of what they had to work with, and with any luck, episode #1107 will be an even better follow-up.

Be sure to watch One Piece episode #1107 when it releases on Saturday, June 1.
