Married At First Sight season 17 was difficult for the experts, specifically Dr. Pia Holec, but many fans are calling her out for some perceived unprofessional behavior ahead of MAFS season 18. Throughout Married At First Sight season 17, the cast of the season worked hard to pull the wool over the eyes of the audience as well as the experts. For Dr. Pia, Dr. Pepper Schwartz, and Pastor Cal Roberson, the matches they’d made throughout the season seemed like they could work long-term. Unfortunately, many noticed Dr. Pia’s behavior outside of the rouse, and are hoping for change.

According to u/trainofwhat on Reddit, Dr. Pia was being both unprofessional and potentially unethical during her time on Married At First Sight season 17, leading many to wonder how the upcoming season will go for the expert. “Dr. Pia was appalling…[throughout the season] she continued to be really biased in her responses and was often patronizing or just unhelpful,” the user explained. “Dr. Pia was very condescending and passive-aggressive in her responses.” The user explained that the way Dr. Pia was speaking to the participants came off harsh, condescending, and passive-aggressive, which wasn’t helpful in building safe rapport.

Married At First Sight Season 17 Was A Failure

Even without Dr. Pia’s behavior, Married At First Sight season 17 was easily one of the worst seasons the series has ever produced. While the matchups felt authentic and the relationships that played out on screen were entertaining, the cast’s behavior behind the scenes wound up ruining the show for both the viewers and those working on the series. During the MAFS season 17 reunion, it was revealed that the participants had decided to predetermine the storylines they wanted to see play out in their relationships, creating false narratives that the production and experts weren’t privy to during filming.

Though MAFS season 17 was troubling for a few reasons, the failure of the season may be a blessing in disguise for the series as a whole. With the cast members coming clean about their deception and production knowing the depths they went to in order to hide what they were doing, future seasons of Married At First Sight will likely benefit. Now, the experts will be far more focused on matching couples up for the right reasons, and the casting team may look for different characteristics in their participants. The experts will have to bring authenticity to the participants.

As viewers get ready for Married At First Sight season 18, which takes place in Dr. Pia’s hometown of Chicago, many are already anticipating there will be bumps in the road between the couples and the experts. Despite feeling a renewed faith in the series after the failure of the most recent season, the new season was filmed before the issues were discovered in Married At First Sight season 17. If Dr. Pia and the other experts can move forward and try new things with the couples, the results could be better for MAFS in the future.
