The following contains spoilers for season 1 of Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, now streaming on Netflix

Jurassic World: Chaos Theory features some pretty harsh death sequences, especially for an animated show targeted at a wide audience. Building off the events of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, Chaos Theory was always going to have an element of danger to it. However, the new series starts in the aftermath of a seemingly brutal death. Although the finale for Chaos Theory‘s first season confirms that Brooklynn survived her apparent death, that doesn’t mean the show is without brutal beats.

In fact, several named and unnamed characters alike are killed off over the course of the series. While all of these deaths are the result of dinosaur attacks, the wide range of people who are killed and the ways many of them are targeted speaks to an overarching and deadly conspiracy at the heart of the Jurassic World franchise. Here’s every death by the ending of the first season of Jurassic World of Chaos Theory, underscoring the dramatic heft of the animated show.

Carl

Carl Is The First On-Screen Casuality Of Chaos Theory

Carl is the first confirmed death of Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, helping establish the show’s blunt approach to mortality. Played by Steve Blum, Carl appears in “Down on the Ranch.” One of Sammy’s neighbors, Carl has no patience for the dinosaur in Sammy’s care and even openly threatens to kill Bumpy. However, his attempt to return later is interrupted by the Atrociraptors sent to hunt Darius, Ben, and Sammy. Although he dies off-screen, Darius and Ben come across his body in his truck.

Carl’s death is the first clear indicator that the trained raptors hunting the Nublar Six in Chaos Theory aren’t just trying to capture them. Instead, the raptors are confirmed to be lethal in their hunts, and openly willing to kill civilians in the process. This raises the stakes for the season, and makes it clear that the overarching villains of the season are more than willing to have people killed if it means taking care of their concerns.

Daniel Kon

The Primary Threat Of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous Is Killed Off In The New Show

Played by Andrew Kishino, Daniel Kon was one of the ultimate villains of the previous series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. The wealthy President of Mantah Corp and Kenji’s father, Daniel was the central overarching villain of Camp Cretaceous. Arrested after the events of that show, Daniel is reintroduced in Chaos Theory in the episode “Halfway Home.” Amid his attempts to dangle information about Brooklynn over Kenji to force a partnership, the Atrociraptors and their Handler arrive to dispatch Ben and Kenji.

Daniel ultimately buys them time to escape, but is killed by the dinosaurs in the process. Daniel’s death confirms that he isn’t the overarching threat of the new show (although his business connections might come back into play in future seasons), and serves as a huge emotional blow to Kenji despite his estrangement from his father. Daniel’s demise gives the character a small shred of redemption, but it also undercuts any suspicions of his connection to the overarching threat of the series and their motivation for hunting down the Nublar Six.

Stevens

Stevens Dies Off-Screen In A Brutal Fashion

Daniel isn’t the only person killed in “Halfway Home.” Stevens, the guard posted to watch over Daniel, is also seemingly dispatched by the Atrociraptors. Although the character doesn’t have a clear name or personality, his seemingly casual death at the hands of the Atrociraptors and their handler quietly says a lot about the conspiracy targeting the Nublar Six. The Guard was likely a federal employee, as the Halfway Home was more or less a prison for Daniel following his crimes in the previous show.

This suggests that the villains of Chaos Theory have no fear of drawing full attention to their actions, willingly killing law enforcement if it gives them a chance to get to their targets. This could be because the unseen conspiracy reasons a dinosaur attack is hard to place blame on, giving them deniability. However, it also speaks to the harsh tactics they’re willing to utilize, and the apparent power over authority that they wield.

Civilians At Dinosaur Therapy Center

Chaos Theory Has A Lot Of Innocent Deaths

One of the most harrowing sequences in Jurassic World: Chaos Theory occurs in “Free Fall.” After Sammy and Ben arrive at a dinosaur-free therapy zone to pick up Yaz, the trio are startled by the arrival of a Becklespinax on the grounds. Unprepared for a dinosaur attack, many of the civilians who’d been attending the therapy center alongside Yaz are caught and killed by the Becklespinax. Although all the deaths occur off-screen, the series doesn’t hide away the severity of the attacks.

The Becklespinax dispatches two people while they try to flee, and catches a man as he reaches Ben’s van. Before Yaz can pull him in to safety, the Becklespinax drags the man outside and seemingly eats him. The Becklespinax rampage is a good reminder of how dangerous dinosaurs can be in the real world, quickly overwhelming several people before they can even get the chance to escape or fight back. The attack is more out of a horror film than a typical Jurassic World entry, and stands out as one of the darkest moments in the season.

Jared

Jared Pays For His Hubris

Jared is one of the DWP agents introduced in Chaos Theory, nominally employed to help care for dinosaurs and attend to sightings of them in the wild. Played by Chris Jai Alex, Jared is also part of the conspiracy to capture dinosaurs and transport them to a black market dealer. Jared is one of the more openly villainous human characters in the season, openly hunting down the Nublar Six. This makes his eventual death in “The Drop” less tragic than many of the other deaths in the season.

While hunting for Sammy and Yaz at their compound, Jared is eventually left out in the open after crashing his car. This is when he is found by a Becklespinax, potentially the same one he helped unleash on the dinosaur-free therapy zone. Having wasted all his ammo trying (and failing) to shoot Yaz and Sammy, Jared is quickly dispatched by the Becklespinax. It’s a grim fate for the character but plays into one of the overarching themes of the Jurassic Park franchise by showcasing how a man’s hubris and ignorance of nature’s true dangerous power leaves them open to grisly endings.

Dudley Cabrera

Cabrera Is Betrayed In Brutal Fashion

Played by Philip Anthony-Rodriguez, Dudley Cabrera is initially set up as a potential ally to the Nublar Six, thanks to his history with Darius. Cabrera is a higher-up at the DWP and formerly worked directly with Darius. However, the final episodes of Jurassic World: Chaos Theory‘s first season reveal Dudley Cabrera is heavily involved in the black market sale and transport of dinosaurs. Dudley is initially teased as one of the overarching threats of the season, and is revealed to have been one of the ones who arranged for Brooklynn to be attacked by the Allosaurus before the events of the series.

In the season finale, “The End of the Beginning,” Dudley tries to order the Atrociraptors Handler around, only to discover she and the rest of his agents actually work for someone else. Deciding Dudley had outlived his usefulness, the Handler promptly uses her three Atrociraptors to attack and kill Dudley. Dudley’s death cements the overarching conspiracy at the heart of Chaos Theory as something far larger and wide-reaching than the Nublar Six could initially predict.

Cabrera’s Workers

A Dinosaur Rampage Wipes Out Lots Of People

Amid the chaos of “The End of the Beginning,” many of the dinosaurs captured by Cabrera and his men end up unleashed. It doesn’t take long for chaos to set in, with many of the workers promptly killed by the rampaging dinosaurs. Some of them are quickly ripped to pieces by dinosaurs, while others are batted away by larger creatures. It’s generally a rampage with a decent body count, even if the actual deaths largely occur off-screen.

It’s another reminder of how callous the dinosaur conspiracy seems to really be towards human suffer. Several people seemingly involved in the conspiracy are killed on the docks, even as the nearby boat still loads dinosaurs and prepares to set off. While the true antagonists of the series aren’t revealed by the end of the season, their villainous bonafindes are confirmed by their apparent acceptance of several employee deaths without any apparent remorse or reevaluation of their plans.

1

Jensen

A Fitting Ending For A Cruel Villain

Played by Steve Blum, Jensen is another member of the DWP who is taking part in the black market sale and transport of dinosaurs. He’s introduced as Jared’s partner, working with him to try and dispatch Ben, Sammy, and Yaz. This also makes him somewhat responsible for the chaos that unfolds at the dinosaur therapy center, as it’s implied he and Jared were the ones to unleash the ravenous Becklespinax into an area full of civilians.

Jensen is also shown to be more connected to the conspiracy than anyone initially realized, as he is able to casually ignore and order from Cabrera and works directly alongside the Atrociraptors Trainer. However, in the chaos of “The End of the Beginning,” Jensen is found by the Allosaurus while trying to contact his employer and is promptly killed by the dinosaur. It’s a brutal death that goes a long way towards setting up the overarching threat of Jurassic World: Chaos Theory and teasing out the dangerous qualities of the villainous conspiracy going into the next season.
