Jeremy Renner has teased that Mayor of Kingstown season 3 will feature Mike’s past haunting him, hinting at new threats that are connected to his time in prison before the events of the show. The next batch of episodes will continue to follow Renner’s character as he continues acting as a mediator between criminals and law enforcement. However, Mayor of Kingstown season 3 promises plenty of intense changes after Mike’s mother, Miriam, is shot, with no indication of whether she’ll make it out alive.

Speaking with TV Insider, though, Renner revealed worrying about his family won’t be all Mike has to contend with in Mayor of Kingstown season 3. The actor explained someone from his past imprisonment will be showing up, allowing for a deeper exploration of the main character’s past. This includes a member of the Aryan Brotherhood, whose presence in town will alter the feel of the series. Check out what Renner had to say below:

We’ve talked about his backstory, that he had been incarcerated. It was always touched on. We’ll dig into it more this season. There’s a guy from his past that comes in.

That’s him shedding skin, being on the outside now and shedding all of that. Just because you had to do bad things or evil things doesn’t mean you are evil. You have to go in there to survive. He’s kind of pondering that and questioning that and trying to move through that internally throughout this season.

There’s also another AB [Aryan Brotherhood] powerhouse that comes in from Mike’s past that kind of stirs up a whole lot of things. So with new drama, there’s new baddies, so it forces Mike to probably be that much better, or that much more evil, I don’t know. But it’s really exciting to watch, that’s for sure.

How Mayor Of Kingstown’s New Threats Will Impact Season 3

Mayor of Kingstown season 3 is Renner’s first role since his injury on January 1, 2023, where a snowplow accident led to his hospitalization and months of physical therapy. Filming for the new batch of episodes began on January 10, 2024, giving the actor over a year of time to recover for his return. The excitement of his comeback bringing new dangers for his character means the show is continuing with business as usual, a major achievement given the extent of the actor’s injuries.

The Mayor of Kingstown season 3 trailer teases the new threats Renner is talking about, as a member of the Russian mob arrives in town for his own business purposes. The trailer also indicates Mike and his brother Kyle will be dealing with the aftermath of what happened to Miriam – possibly her death, given Dianne West won’t be coming back in season 3. Either way, with his mother out of the picture and a member of the Brotherhood also coming back to town, it seems the new batch of episodes will be Mike’s toughest challenge yet.

With the Mayor of Kingstown cast expanding thanks to its new villains, there’s no telling how wild and action-packed the upcoming season is going to be. However, with more of Mike’s past getting explored through these returning threats, it seems he’ll have a more personal stake in everything going on than ever before. This could lead to some of the most intense action scenes of the show, alongside plenty of story twists that reveal even more about the protagonist.
