Jeremy Renner explains how his filming for Mayor of Kingstown impacted his injury recovery. Starring Renner as powerful Michigan man Mike McLusky, Mayor of Kingstown is a Paramount+ series about a town wherein incarceration thrives above all other business. The series has thus far had two completed seasons, and Mayor of Kingstown season 3 has since been announced and is confirmed to be airing soon.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Renner discusses how filming Mayor of Kingstown affected his recovery. Check out the full quote from Renner below:

Yeah, I didn’t consider really anything for a good while. Wow. Maybe in the summer, I even considered the idea of it. But then just, I always had to have something to look forward to. My recovery was like, I needed something to look forward to. It was another step. And then it became, “What am I doing today?”

I didn’t have to look too far forward, but I think everybody needs something to look forward to. The idea of wanting to do Mayor [of Kingstown] was something to, in the distance, maybe get back on my feet again. “Okay, great, maybe I can get back to work again.”

A year later after the accident was when we started picking up and doing it, and I probably wasn’t quite physically ready, but I felt mentally ready and prepared. We had a lot of great people to get through the tough time of getting back on my feet for this thing. Me, Hugh [Dillon], and our showrunner Dave Erickson are working really hard, man. We worked really hard, and we’re really happy and proud of not only the season but also the physical recovery of it all during this difficult season.

And it is also great, to be honest. I’m proud to get everybody back to work, man. We just got off a long strike for actors and writers, and so it was nice to just get people back to work, man. That felt really good too.

More to come…
