Conversations about a Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes sequel have been happening since the movie debuted, but there’s only one character from the Hunger Games prequel who needs a follow-up — and it isn’t Lucy Gray Baird. The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes leaves Lucy’s story open-ended, accurately adapting the conclusion of Suzanne Collins’ novel of the same name. It also alludes to Coriolanus Snow’s rise to power, allowing viewers to fill in the gaps of what happens between the prequel and the original Hunger Games movies.

Although fans of the franchise know where Snow is headed, some want to see his climb to the presidency play out on-screen. Even Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes actor Tom Blyth is eager to capture that development. And the mystery surrounding Lucy Gray’s fate also has viewers eager for The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes 2. Unfortunately, neither of these characters really needs a sequel; their arcs are over, even if there are a few questions left. There’s only one Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes character whose story makes sense to continue, as there’s a huge gap between the prequel and Mockingjay.

The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes was a new chapter in The Hunger Games series, but if it were to receive a sequel, only a few characters could return.

Tigris Is The Only Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes Character Who Still Needs A Follow-Up

Snow’s Cousin Is The Perfect Person To Lead A Sequel

Hunter Schafer as Tigris Snow at a desk of sketches in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

Of all the characters introduced in The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, Tigris Snow makes the most sense to lead a sequel. Tigris is Coriolanus’ cousin, and she has a positive relationship with him for most of the Hunger Games prequel. Tigris is a big supporter of her cousin, though she seems to realize that he has a dark side — especially towards the end of the film. Those who have seen Mockingjay – Part 2 also know that Tigris eventually comes to defy Snow, as she helps Katniss and the rebels during their mission to the Capitol.

The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes doesn’t spend a lot of time on Tigris’ storyline, and Mockingjay – Part 2 barely digs into her backstory. As such, she’s one of the few characters ripe for further exploration. There’s a lot the Hunger Games franchise can do with her, and her connection to both the Capitol and the rebels makes her an intriguing perspective to follow. There are plenty of questions about how Tigris evolves after The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, and these can be answered by having her helm a sequel.

A Tigris Sequel Could Explain How She Becomes The Woman We Meet In Mockingjay

The Hunger Games Franchise Needs To Connect The Dots

Hunter Schafer as Tigris in Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Tigris from The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2

Like Coriolanus, viewers know exactly where Tigris ends up in The Hunger Games movies. However, while they know how Snow becomes Panem’s leader, there’s no indication of how Tigris becomes the woman viewers meet in Mockingjay – Part 2. Her appearance is vastly different in Mockingjay, and she doesn’t seem to associate with the Snow family. Her journey from being a loyal cousin to a woman willing to help the rebels would make for a compelling story. The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes 2 should take advantage of it, assuming a sequel ever happens.

It’s clear that Tigris is suspicious of Coriolanus when he returns to the Capitol at the ending of The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. It leaves viewers to wonder if she ever confronts her cousin about his sudden turnaround. Tigris may even attempt to stop his rise to power, which could explain why she looks so different in The Hunger Games. There are a lot of fascinating possibilities that a Tigris sequel could explore. And although it’s hard to see her narrative colliding with Lucy Gray’s, following Tigris would allow Coriolanus’ on-screen journey to continue as well.

The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes 2 Could Show Snow’s Rise To Power From Tigris’ POV

It’s The Ideal Way To Continue Coriolanus’ Narrative

Centering The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes 2 on Coriolanus wouldn’t make much sense, as viewers know where the character winds up. There’s not much left for Coriolanus to do. And considering that he becomes The Hunger Games’ villain, he won’t exactly get the opportunity to grow during a sequel. This is why following him alone would make for a bleak and somewhat uninteresting narrative. Making a follow-up about Tigris, however, would give the audience someone to root for while still allowing them to see the most interesting parts of Snow’s rise to power.

Tigris’ relationship with Coriolanus is the perfect opportunity for The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes 2 to continue his journey as a peripheral character. Meanwhile, it can also answer frequently asked questions about Tigris’ character and lead directly into The Hunger Games movies. This is one of the best ways for the franchise to go forward — though there are a lot of Hunger Games spinoffs focused on other characters that would also work well.
