Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is No. 1 at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend. The movie is the fifth installment in the franchise, with returning director George Miller helming a prequel to 2015’s Fury Road starring Anya Taylor-Joy as a younger version of the title character originally played by Charlize Theron. The Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga box office has had a slow start in the domestic marketplace, racing neck and neck with The Garfield Movie for a No. 1 Memorial Day weekend title with a projected gross of around $31 million at the time of writing.

Per Variety, Furiosa has at least officially taken No. 1 at the global box office, though this was potentially influenced by the fact that Garfield has already been running in various international markets since the beginning of May. Out of 75 different territories, the Mad Max movie has accumulated $33.3 million, bringing its worldwide opening weekend haul to a lukewarm $58.9 million. As Memorial Day doesn’t affect overseas markets, this 3-day total from international territories likely won’t get a huge boost on Monday.
