The Strangers: Chapter 1 has passed a major domestic box office milestone. The Renny Harlin prequel is the third movie in the overall home invasion horror franchise and is intended to be the beginning of a theatrical trilogy which has already been shot, with Chapter 2 set to premiere later in 2024 and Chapter 3 due at an unspecified date. In spite of the new movie earning 20% on Roten Tomatoes, the lowest score of the franchise, the Strangers: Chapter 1 release debuted the weekend before Memorial Day with a total of $11.8 million against its $8.5 million budget.
Per Deadline, the Strangers: Chapter 1 box office is projected to take in a 4-day total of $7 million in the domestic marketplace by the end of Memorial Day weekend. This means that after two weekends in theaters, the movie’s cumulative domestic gross will be $22.7 million. In addition to passing the $20 million milestone, the release is now the fourth highest-grossing domestic horror movie of 2024 behind Abigail ($25.8 million), Imaginary ($28 million), and Night Swim ($32.5 million).
