The series, despite initial apprehension surrounding the production team behind the project, has managed to prove that the adaptation was well worth the wait.

What Happened In Kaiju No. 8 Episode #7

The threat of hostile kaiju are rising – making Kafka’s time to understand his new powers that much shorter

In Kaiju No. 8 episode #7, “Kaiju No. 9”, Reno and Iharu faced off against the humanoid Kaiju, now named “Kaiju No. 9”. Thanks to the intel Reno received from Kikoru, he and Iharu were able to evade No. 9’s attacks and put a bit of pressure on him, but No. 9 still overpowered both of them with ease. It appeared that No. 9 was going to kill Reno and Iharu, but at the last second, Kafka appeared and landed a devastating blow on Kaiju No. 9.

With Kafka now his opponent, No. 9 revealed that he was holding back against Reno and Iharu, but even with him fighting at full strength, Kafka defeated No. 9 with relative ease. Before Kafka could finish him off, however, the Defense Force showed up and attacked Kafka for being a Kaiju, which gave No. 9 a chance to escape. Kafka, naturally, had to flee, as well, but unfortunately, the end of the episode showed that Kafka crossed paths with Vice-captain Hoshina and is now going to have to fight him.

Kaiju No. 8’s Next Big Fight Will Be The Anime’s Best Fight Yet

With the official introduction of Kaiju No. 9, fans should expect an exhilarating story arc

Hoshina in episode 7

With how Kaiju No. 8 episode #7 ended, episode #8 is sure to be the first true test of Kafka’s power. Up until now, Kafka has defeated every opponent of his with ease, sometimes in one punch, but in episode #8, Kafka will face Vice-captain Hoshina, someone on par with Mina, so there’s no chance of anything like that happening. Whether he wins or loses, Kafka will be forced to push himself to his limits in his fight with Hoshina, and however he measures up to him will be the best showing of how strong Kafka is supposed to be.

Kafka and Hoshina’s fight is sure to be a big one, and it’s probably going to have the visuals to match. One of the biggest selling points of the Kaiju No. 8 anime has always been its incredible art and animation, and with how popular a character Hoshina is and how often swordfights lend themselves to great animation, Kafka and Hoshina’s fight will likely have some of the best animation in Kaiju No. 8, yet. That would make what’s set to be a great episode an even greater watch, and with any luck, the anime will follow through on it.

Kaiju No. 8’s Delivers Another Great Episode, Albeit Frustrating

Despite the series going in a great direction, some narrative decisions are holding it back

Kaiju No. 9 after being decapitated

As good as Kaiju No. 8 episode #7 was, the way the story played out with Kaiju No. 9 was more than a little frustrating. Kaiju No. 9 only escaped because of the bad timing on the Defense Force’s part and not thanks to anything he did, and as such, Kaiju No. 9 surviving purely through luck makes him feel like less competent of a villain than he should be. No. 9 appears to be the type of character who grows with every fight, so it’s probably intentional, but it makes for a bad impression and lazy writing, regardless.

That being said, episode #7 was still great to watch. The art and animation were just as impressive as ever, especially during Kafka’s fight with Kaiju No. 9, and aside from how Kaiju No. 9’s exit was handled, Kaiju No. 8 episode #7 did a great job of advancing the story in a natural direction, all of which led to a great setup for episode #8 and beyond. Even with some notable shortcomings, Kaiju No. 8 episode #7 still had plenty to offer, and with any luck, episode #8 will be an even better installment in the series.

Be sure to watch Kaiju No. 8 episode #8 when it releases on Saturday, June 1.
