Dune: Part Two’s superb special effects have been approved and broken down by the VFX artists at Corridor Crew. The climactic sequel to Dune, based on the novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, opened to rave reviews and a solid box office gross. Currently, it holds a 92% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics and a 95% from audiences, dubbed a visually thrilling and narratively epic adaption from director Denis Villeneuve, and it grossed $711 million worldwide. A third Dune film, Messiah, has been greenlit by studios Legendary and Warner Bros., with Villeneuve returning to direct.

Dune: Part Two’s convincing VFX has been analyzed and approved by Corridor Crew on YouTube.

The YouTube channel prefaces the analysis, which can be viewed above, by saying that its one of the best action scenes they’ve ever seen, pointing out the breathtaking cinematography that accompanies the VFX and the transitions of real-life shots to CGI. They also applaud the movie team’s tactic of meshing the VFX with clouds of sand and smoke, which ultimately makes the artists’ job easier.

Dune: Part Two’s VFX Will Be Oscar-Nominated

The first Dune movie from Villeneuve, on top of the high RT scores and substantial box office gross, performed well during the Oscars. It was nominated for a whopping total of 10 Oscars, including Best Picture. It ultimately won six of those awards, including Best Sound, Best Achievement in Production Design, Best Original Score, Best Achievement in Film Editing, Best Achievement in Cinematography, and Best Achievement in Visual Effects.

Dune: Part Two is posed for similar success once Oscar season comes. Being one of the biggest movies of the year so far, it may even be nominated for Best Picture. Like the first film, it’s likely that the film will be nominated for Best Achievement in Visual Effects, and, depending on the competition (its biggest competitor might be Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes), it has a high chance of winning. The highlight of Dune: Part Two’s VFX will be the grand, breathtaking sandworms.
