The MCU’s Avengers first banded together to defeat Loki and the Chitauri army he utilized to lay siege to the Earth, eventually leading the team to star in a “circle” shot in the ruins of New York City that immediately was enshrined as one of the best and most instantly recognizable shots in the entire MCU. And now, that iconic MCU shot has been recreated in fanart form, replacing the live-action team with the Avengers of the 1980s instead!

Uploading images featuring DC’s Justice League Dark, Marvel’s X-Men, two versions of the Sandman character, Batman and Spider-Man getting tangled in their respective swinging gadgets, and more, Kerry makes sure to add his signature humor to each new piece, turning his artwork into something that’s not only visually appealing but a joy to read as well.

The ’80s Avengers Reenact The MCU Team’s Most Memorable Moment In New Fanart

Fanart Design By Kerry Callen (@kerrycallen)

The MCU's Avengers in Phase 1

An iconic shot taken from a pivotal and climactic moment in 2012’s The Avengers, this “circle” scene saw Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the Hulk as they regroup mid-battle to form one last plan to finally defeat Loki and his armies, with the camera epically circling the team as they ready themselves for the next fight. Adapted to the page by Kerry, the idea of giving fans an artistic take on a now classic MCU moment is an inspired one, especially when using comic-accurate Marvel characters as they were drawn in the 1980s.

Placing the ‘80s Avengers in the same configuration as the live-action team, Kerry illustrates Monica Rambeau’s Spectrum, Dane Whitman’s Black Knight, Scarlet Witch, Wasp, Iron Man in his Centurion armor, and finally, the Eternal known as Starfox, all drawn in the poses Chris Evans’ Captain America, Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, and the rest of the original MCU Avengers held during this scene. Throwing in the same smoke and fire background elements as the movie, it’s Kerry’s attention to the team’s ’80s costumes, mixed with an art style ripped right from the time period, that really sells this image.

What’s more, fans can swipe through the post to see another two versions of this piece, one with the original ‘60s Avengers roster penciled in and the other featuring the ‘70s incarnation of the Justice League. The next iteration of the MCU’s Avengers hasn’t made their big screen debut just yet, but when they do, it’s almost certain they’ll get their own version of the live-action team’s iconic “circle” shot to help show off their might as Earth’s steadfast protectors, giving creators like Kerry Callen (@kerrycallen) even more material to work with for their future fanart endeavors.
