The Acolyte star Carrie-Anne Moss discusses the differences in training for her new show compared to The Matrix. Moss first starred in the sci-fi favorite movie in 1999 and appeared in the sequels, including 2021’s The Matrix Resurrections. She’ll be appearing in Star Wars’ new show The Acolyte, which visits the Star Wars universe in an era and story never seen before in the movies or TV shows with the High Republic. Set 500 to 100 years before the Skywalker saga, the Disney+ show will chronicle the creeping rise of the Sith during the Jedi’s prime.

In an interview with Empire Magazine (via Star Wars News Net), Moss detailed the differences between training for Star Wars: The Acolyte and The Matrix. She said that the two projects didn’t cross over and that The Matrix Resurrections was already in the rearview mirror. The biggest difference in training for the two projects was that Moss trained alone when preparing for The Acolyte. She also mentioned how hard it was to keep a straight face and make her moves look effortless when they were, in fact, not so easy to do. Read her full comment below:

It didn’t cross over – I think it was a couple of years later. I wrapped this a year ago. I shot [The Acolyte] for three months, including the training. So I was deep in it for three months. [Resurrections] had cooled off, and was in the rear-view mirror for sure.

I think all of my history of learning to fight and- This was very different though, because I was by myself. I had always done [The Matrix] with my co-stars, and there’s a certain energy. [On The Acolyte] I was on my own, with my team, which was great because I got to ignite and access a part of myself. I was like, ‘I want to do everything.’ I loved it more than I can remember loving doing something in a long time. ‘I’m strong. I can learn this. I can show up, and I can find that containment.’ With fighting, it’s very hard for me not to make faces – to constantly bring it back in, where it’s almost effortless. It looks effortless, and yet it’s not. [laughs] That was fun to play with. I told Leslye, ‘I do not want to be making a lot of faces. I want it to be right.’

Jedi Master Indara Is A “Force” To Be Reckoned With

Jedi Master Indara Is Seen In The Trailers Facing Off Against Mae.

With The Acolyte’s two-episode premiere fast approaching, there has been plenty of footage tease to go around, and one scene that’s continually hyped up is the fight between Moss’s Jedi Master Indara and Amandla Stenberg’s Mae. The fight seems to take place in a small backroom and features some exciting choreography. The fight is complete with throwing knives (Mae’s choice of weapons) and Indara’s green lightsaber.

Seeing Moss’s The Acolyte character dressed in a Jedi’s garb with her wielding a lightsaber is a striking, ecstatic image. With her veteran status in The Matrix films, viewers can only expect that she’ll bring the same gusto to her duels in Star Wars. In her interview, Moss mentioned a vital keyword regarding her fights, which was “containment.” In the snippets seen so far, Moss seems to be the epitome of this concept, with Indara displaying her control of emotions and the Force.
