Speculation has suggested that a revival of Spider-Man: The Animated Series may be imminent after the massive success of Marvel Animation’s X-Men ’97. Set outside the MCU, X-Men ’97 continued the story of X-Men: The Animated Series, which previously ran for five seasons between 1992 and 1997. The series picked up roughly a year after Professor X’s departure from Earth, and pitted the X-Men team against some of their most iconic villains, though they weren’t alone. X-Men ’97 featured several cameos from Marvel’s other superheroes, including Peter Parker’s Spider-Man, spurring rumors of a potential Spider-Man: The Animated Series revival.

While a revival of Spider-Man: The Animated Series, which ran for five seasons between 1994 and 1998, hasn’t yet been confirmed by Marvel Studios, the fact that X-Men ’97 fared so well among audiences suggests this could come to fruition. This revival, tentatively titled Spider-Man ’98 among fans, has now been imagined in a concept poster shared by agtdesign, bringing Peter Parker back into the spotlight.

The version of Peter Parker from Spider-Man: The Animated Series, previously voiced by Christopher Daniel Barnes, returned for brief cameos in X-Men ’97, alongside several other ’90s heroes, teasing a number of potential revivals.

X-Men ’97 episode 7’s cameos may hint at another animated series revival, which could lead to the return of the MCU’s shared universe predecessor.

Which Other Marvel Animated Shows Could Be Revived?

Back in the 1990s, Marvel produced a number of animated series that became the unofficial Marvel Animated Universe. Headlined by X-Men: The Animated Series and Spider-Man: The Animated Series, the Marvel Animated Series included a number of heroes who have since become household names thanks to their portrayals in the live-action MCU. X-Men ’97 was the first revival series from this era of Marvel stories, and has become the highest-rated project ever produced by Marvel Studios, which could hint at more revivals being on the horizon, with the popular Spider-Man: The Animated Series perhaps being the most wanted.

10 Superhero Cartoons That Deserve To Be Revived After Marvel’s X-Men ’97 Success

Now that X-Men ’97’s revival of the original X-Men: The Animated Series has proven to be a success, these other superhero shows should be revived too.

The appearance of Steve Rogers’ Captain America and Tony Stark’s Iron Man in X-Men ’97 may have teased a continuation of Marvel’s The Avengers: United They Stand. This short-lived series only ran for 13 episodes between October 1999 and February 2000, but put Ant-Man, the Falcon, Vision, the Wasp, Wonder Man, Hawkeye, Quicksilver, and the Scarlet Witch front-and-center. While Iron Man and Captain America weren’t core members of the team in this iteration, their larger role in the MCU’s Avengers team could give them a more pivotal role in the series’ future, if a revival is developed.

The fact that X-Men member Morph impersonated powerful Marvel heroes such as Bruce Banner’s Hulk and Reed Richards’ Mister Fantastic in X-Men ’97 means that revivals of The Incredible Hulk and Fantastic Four: The Animated Series could also be on the cards. Other Marvel Animated Universe shows that haven’t been teased to be revived include Silver Surfer and Spider-Man Unlimited, while X-Men: Evolution, The Spectacular Spider-Man and The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are more recent animated shows that have gained popularity, so they could also be revived alongside X-Men ’97 and a potential continuation of Spider-Man: The Animated Series.
