The official MPA rating for Twisters is a great indication of how it can surpass its predecessor. Although the original Twister is a classic blockbuster and received a rating of PG-13 upon its release, the limited technology of the 1996 movie pales in comparison to what is possible nowadays and is expected of the upcoming Twisters. Recent releases such as Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning reestablished the status quo of what makes a truly great action movie, an elite category that Twisters hopes to enter this July.

The cast of Twisters is led by Glen Powell as Tyler Owens, a wild-hearted stormchaser who bears a resemblance to Dr. Jonas Miller (Cary Elwes) in the original. Twisters has an estimated budget of $200 million and will likely need to outperform the original’s box office performance of nearly $500 million to turn a profit, considering marketing and other promotional fees. Twisters will also star Daisy Edgar-Jones, Anthony Ramos, David Corenswet, and Kiernan Shipka, and is directed by Lee Issac Chung of Minari acclaim.

Twisters’ PG-13 Rating & Improved Technology Confirms Its Action Will Beat The Original’s

Twisters could become the must-see movie theater event of the summer

Twisters will likely not be as celebrated or instantly iconic as the original 1996 movie. However, it is shaping up to surpass Twister in terms of quality and quantity of action sequences. Even based on the Twisters trailer alone, the highly anticipated sequel promises to bestow even better and more devastatingly convincing disaster scenes, which will be made even more impactful by enormous modern-day IMAX screens and cutting-edge theatrical sound systems.

Now that a PG-13 rating has been revealed for Twisters, fans can expect to receive a full force of intense disaster scenes and epic action sequences that should undoubtedly outdo those of the original movie. Twister was rated PG-13 for “intense depictions of bad weather” while Twisters received its rating for “intense action and peril, some language and injury images. This sets the foundation for more dazzling and dangerous sights in Twisters, and potentially even more gore and death scenes.
