The forthcoming crossover between the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Masters of the Universe is every 80s kids’ dream. Two of that decade’s most popular toy lines, both franchises are still going strong in the 21st century. Now, the two titans of toys are set to collide in a four-issue miniseries titled Masters of the Universe/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles of Grayskull.

Dark Horse Comics, who will be publishing Turtles of Grayskull in conjunction with IDW, revealed more information about the title on their website. The book will be written by Tim Seeley, who has helped define the Masters of the Universe franchise for the modern day. Joining Seeley on art will be Freddie E. Williams II, also no stranger to the franchise.

The action kicks off when Krang and the Shredder make a deal with Skeletor.

Using the Utrom mutagen, Skeletor creates a powerful weapon that now threatens Eternia–and the Turtles must join forces with He-Man to stop it.

Both Masters of the Universe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Are Products of the 1980s

Despite This, They Persist to This Day–And Are More Popular Than Ever

The 1980s saw an explosion in action figure toy lines and franchises. The decade saw the arrival of the Transformers, the revamping of GI Joe and the debut of the Masters of the Universe. While He-Man fought the evil Skeletor on Eternia, the duo of Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird cooked up another enduring franchise: the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. While it began as a riff on Frank Miller’s Daredevil, it quickly grew to become a pop culture juggernaut of its own, with cartoons, toys, movies and a slew of other merchandise.

Despite being products of the 1980s, both Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Masters of the Universe continue to find new generations of fans. Masters of the Universe returned in the early aughts, and has remained a presence ever since. Mattel, Masters of the Universe’s parent company, continues to release toys based on the property. Likewise, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles continues to be a top performer, with the recent The Last Ronin selling extremely well for IDW. Both franchises feature a sprawling universe with numerous interesting characters–and now they are set to collide.

Kids of the 1980s Could Only Dream of a Crossover Like This

Although Masters of the Universe has crossed over with the Thundercats and the heroes of the DC Universe, this is their first official meeting with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This is a cause for celebration and excitement, and others are getting in on the act. In addition to the comics, Mattel has released a Turtles of Grayskull line, featuring mash-ups of each line’s biggest characters. A meeting between He-Man and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was nothing but a dream for children of the 1980s, but now at long last it is coming true.
