With My Adventures with Superman season 2 coming up this week, the DC creators break down the arrival of new DC players and evolve the main cast. In a year where there is only a handful of live-action DC properties, the summer is about to get new action with the Man of Steel in the world of animation. Following the big ending to My Adventures with Superman season 1, the new season is only days away from premiering on Adult Swim.

As My Adventures with Superman explores the lives of Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen as rookies in Metropolis, the animated DC series will continue to progress their careers, as well as their beloved friendship. While Clark is also growing as the guardian angel of Metropolis, new threats are still out there waiting to take down Krypton’s last son. The conclusion of season 1 set up the arrival of some of Clark’s biggest enemies from the comics in My Adventures with Superman season 2.

7 My Adventures With Superman Season 2 Theories We Actually Believe

My Adventures With Superman season 2 is happening. From Brainiac’s purpose to General Zod’s plan, here are the biggest theories for what happens next.

My Adventures with Superman season 2 is premiering on May 25, and to get ready for the sophomore season, Screen Rant interviewed showrunner/co-executive producer Jake Wyatt, co-executive producer Brendan Clogher, and co-producer Josie Campbell to tease what is coming up for the show. Throughout the interview, the creative team chats about how characters like Supergirl, General Zod, and Brainiac will fit into My Adventures with Superman season 2, characters, who they would love to see from previous Superman movies and/or TV shows, and the emotional challenges that Clark, Lois, and Jimmy will experience this year.

My Adventures With Superman Creative Team Previews Season 2

Screen Rant: I want to get to one of the big new mysteries of the season, which is Supergirl, of course. How does she fit into this universe from everything we’ve seen up here before? What do you guys bring to her in this incarnation?

Josie Campbell: I think the vaguest thing we can say about her character, we looked at her core, and think, ‘How’s a way nobody’s ever seen her before?’ She’s still the core person she’s always been. There’s some twists in her story and some twists of how we’re presenting her and that’s all I’ll say.

Any mentions of who is voicing her because that’s something we’re dying to find out.

Jake Wyatt: Yeah, that’s Kiana Madeira, who’s fantastic. She’s been on Fear Street, and a few other things. She brings an incredible amount of charm to the character. The other thing we can say about Kara, is that Clark and Kara classically have different relationships to Krypton and that will be a lot of fun.

The Return Of Jor-El

Jor-El and Kal-El in My Adventures With Superman episode 10

I have to ask because I wasn’t prepared for it: whose idea was in the writers’ room to make Jor-El so sassy? Because I’ve never heard him sassy!

Josie Campbell: Sassy dad! [laughs]

Jake Wyatt: That is M. Willis’ episode.

Josie Campbell: M. Willis is one of our writers, both she made him sassy and also once we got into the recording booth, Jason Marnocha, who voices [Jor-El] really put some sass into that voice, ‘Okay, you kind of like raising your son,’ and he goes, ‘I’ve got it! and then you get the snarkiest Jor-El we’ve ever seen.

Jake Wyatt: It was really unexpected because you had so much gravitas in season one and then he just pulled it right out.

New Takes On Brainiac & General Zod

My Adventures With Superman's General Zod

I know you can’t spoil too much, but we got a tease of Brainiac last season, and clearly, Zod is in there somewhere, so give me some nuggets of what we can expect from these two.

Jake Wyatt: Krypton is more complex than Clark decided it was at the middle of season one and Brainiac is going to enlighten him a whole bunch about that. Brainiac is incredibly performed by Michael Emerson, an incredible actor and we tried to write him a Brainiac worthy of his talents. He does an unbelievable job and we just really tried to keep up.

Revisiting Other Superman Eras

My Adventures With Superman's League of Lois Lanes

One of my favorite episodes last season was when we got to really take a peek into the multiverse with the League of Lois Lanes and really pay homage to a lot of different Superman eras. Is there any chance we have a similar episode later this season where we get to see these characters in other eras of Superman?

Jake Wyatt: In a way, yeah. There’s a way in which Clark and Lois get a look at another version of Superman. But it’s distinct from season one. I guess the answer is yeah, we’re going to look at other possible outcomes and other takes on Superman, but not in the way that we did in season one.

Dream Guest Spots From Superman, Lois Lane & Jimmy Olsen Actors

I asked the My Adventures with Superman cast as well, but if you could have other Superman, Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen actors come on, whether they would play as their own characters in animation or something else. Are there anyone that you’re dreaming to get on if you had the power to get them?

Josie Campbell: Honestly, I think these guys know, bringing Teri Hatcher – there was truly a moment and this was back in season one where we’re like, ‘Could we get Teri Hatcher to be Vicki Vale?’ We were like, ‘We cannot, they’re expensive!’ But yeah, I would say Teri Hatcher and then I love Brandon Routh’s performance of Superman.

Jake Wyatt: I would love to get anybody from the Superman: The Animated Series universe, to show up? Those would be my pics.

Brendan Clogher: My answer’s stupid because he hasn’t actually been Superman but I would just love to somehow get Nic Cage.

Josie Campbell: He was Superman in one of the animated DC things that came out, he was in Teen Titans Go! To The Movies so there you go, he’s canon!

How My Adventures With Superman Season 2 Will Test The Dynamic Trio

Superman Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen in My Adventures With Superman

I will give bonus points if you ever get anyone from Smallville, just putting it out there. What is a crucial episode for Clark, Jimmy, and Lois, individually, the season that fans should be looking out for?

Josie Campbell: I think this season, we have different episodes that are crucial for them for each character, especially Lois and Clark are going to have big turning points. There’s kind of a Lois-centric episode that you’re going to know which one it is when we get there. A lot of the back half is very Clark/Superman-centric. Jimmy is getting his moments to shine, especially in the middle of the season, so I think each character gets a spotlight-like episode, essentially.

Jake Wyatt: The middle is the big turning point, though, from episode four, the story starts to turn, our characters start to get challenged in ways they weren’t in season one. The challenge runs Jimmy, Lois, Clark and then back again!

Josie Campbell: This is the season where we’re most testing their bonds of love and friendship, I would say, so a lot of the episode is going to be revolving around that and the follow up from that.

Jimmy Olsen Vs The World Of Influencers

Jimmy Olsen in My Adventures With Superman episode 9

I love seeing Jimmy as this media king and influencer that we’ve never seen before. What are you guys using in terms of inspiration from the real world and influencer trends to really craft what he is like in this universe? Are you going to do self commentary on how influencers are these days, is Jimmy going to be the ideal influencer that we should have?

Jake Wyatt: I’m gonna be honest, for me, it was way more about Silver Age Jimmy than anybody real and it was less than how would the real world inform Jimmy Olsen? It was [more about] what shape would that maniac take in something more like our current reality? It’s less like trying to think of Jimmy Olsen as an influencer and trying to think of what he would become in a world with influencers, if that makes sense? That was what it was about for me.

Josie Campbell: I think it was more coming at it from, ‘Okay, if you were 20 and stupid,’ as we all were at one point, and somebody gave you millions of dollars, how would you waste it? [laughs]

Brendan Clogher: I was just saying that in our version of Superman, Superman is the world’s first superhero, Jimmy Olsen is the world’s first influencer. I feel like we’re just having fun with it. I don’t think there’s an ideal influencer.

Jake Wyatt: We all aspire to always be nice about everyone! [laughs]

Emotional Teases For My Adventures With Superman Season 2

Clark Kent and Lois Lane in My Adventures With Superman episode 10

Before I let you guys go, any other teasers you can give us about season two for our Screen Rant readers?

Jake Wyatt: I am really excited for everyone to encounter Krypton along with Clark Kent, a place that we believe no longer existed. It’s coming, it’s gonna be dramatic and I just can’t wait for everybody to meet it.

Josie Campbell: I think season one was a lot of fun but I think season two is fun and very emotional. I think we’re putting Clark, Lois, and Jimmy through the wringer in every way. It’s not just physical challenges, but their emotional journeys and their emotional arcs are really at the forefront. So if you want to see more Superman getting punched and then being sad, this is the season for you! [laughs]

Brendan Clogher: And boy, is there punching, I’m excited for space and fights!

Jake Wyatt: To Julie’s point, though, we emotionally abused Clark in season one, and [in] season two, no one is safe!
