While Star Wars certainly has a lot planned for the future, they have just confirmed that The Mandalorian will be at the center of it all. As the first live-action Star Wars TV show, The Mandalorian has long since proven its importance to the franchise, and Din Djarin and Grogu have both undeniably become Star Wars legends – even after only five years. Now that The Mandalorian & Grogu movie will be acting as Star Warsultimate comeback to the movie theater, it seems the franchise is investing much of its future in the beloved father-son duo.

The Mandalorian began its run at a high point with the debut of Grogu in its series premiere, but it has only continued to grow in popularity since then. The Star Wars TV show has since inspired several spin-off series, including The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and the upcoming Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Din Djarin and Grogu also became the first Star Wars characters from Disney+ to appear at Disney Parks, further proving how iconic they really are. Now, Disney and Star Wars are taking this a step further with their plans for future storytelling.

In a sizzle reel shared by Disney (via Scott Gustin), The Mandalorian is highlighted above all other Star Wars content, alongside the Frozen and Avatar franchises. When the voiceover begins speaking about the past and the future, Din Djarin and Grogu are shown with “the future,” teasing the large role the duo will continue to play for both Star Wars and Disney as a whole. This comes just before Disney highlights that The Mandalorian was still the company’s most-watched original series of 2023, despite the mixed reviews season 3 received.

Din Djarin & Grogu Are The New Faces Of Star Wars, Not The Jedi

The Mandalorian Is Breaking New Ground For Star Wars Yet Again

For the first time in Star Wars history, it looks as if the franchise will be moving ahead with non-Jedi icons for its future. While Grogu can still be categorized as a Force-user, he’s deliberately chosen to move away from the path of a Jedi in favor of becoming a Mandalorian like his father. Seeing as Din Djarin and Grogu still have Jedi allies to rely on, there will be no shortage of the iconic warriors, but Star Wars is clearly ready to put non-Jedi at the center of their future storytelling initiatives.

Given how beloved Din Djarin and Grogu are as a duo, this is no doubt the smartest move. The Mandalorian has long since proven that new and fresh ideas are good for Star Wars, even if they fail to have a focus on the Jedi and the Force. With The Mandalorian & Grogu movie about to enter production and various The Mandalorian spin-off TV shows on the horizon, viewers can expect to continue seeing Din Djarin and Grogu at the heart of Star Wars’ future storytelling for many years to come.
