3 Body Problem‘s renewal announcement has been clarified by showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff. Netflix confirmed that the science-fiction series would be returning for “additional episodes” that would “finish the story.” This created confusion about whether the series is only confirmed to be returning for season 2, or if Netflix is committing beyond a season 2 to fully adapt the source material written by Liu Cixin.

While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Weiss and Benioff, who are co-showrunners of 3 Body Problem alongside Alexander Woo, clarified what Netflix’s announcement means for the future of the series. Check out Weiss and Benioff’s comments below:

Weiss: We knew going into this how many hours we need to tell the rest of the story because we’ve got a roadmap through to the end. And we have what we need to get to the end as intended from when we started.

Benioff: By the time we finish with the show, it will be seven years we’ve devoted to it. We’re now at a place where we get to tell the rest of the story, and, yes, we have enough time to tell the rest of the story the way we want to and that’s immensely gratifying.

More to come…
