Warning! Preview pages ahead for Wonder Woman #9!The Justice League’s most resilient hero has always been Wonder Woman and her latest trial is proving it. Diana has been kidnapped by the sinister king, the Sovereign, who is doing everything he can to break her. But Wonder Woman shows off her fortitude and reveals why no opponent will ever break her.

In a preview for Wonder Woman #9 by Tom King and Daniel Sampere, Diana is still being held captive. To withstand the torture she’s going through, Wonder Woman has retreated into her mind and talks with Steve Trevor about everything Diana is going through.

Time passes and Diana holds onto her sanity by talking with Steve. Wonder Woman tells the familiar figment of her imagination that she’s fine and that everything is going to work out. Diana starts to express doubt as time goes on, but Steve is there to be with Wonder Woman in her time of need.

Wonder Woman’s Love Keeps Her Going in Her Darkest Moments

Wonder Woman has faced several sinister villains in her past, but her current foe is one of her most vile yet. Fearing Wonder Woman and what she represents, America’s secret king the Sovereign used an Amazonian criminal to foment waves of paranoia and hysteria against other Amazons. Diana stayed to fight this bigotry, forcing the Sovereign to throw everything but the kitchen sink at her. However, Sovereign eventually captured Diana and brought her to a secluded prison, where he attempted to use the Lasso of Lies on Wonder Woman to brainwash her and break her indomitable spirit.

There are hundreds of Wonder Woman stories that show just how strong she is. But rarely do stories explore how tough she is mentally. The Sovereign isn’t a physically intimidating foe, and Diana could easily throttle him if she got her hands on him. But the cruel despot is attacking her mind to get her to submit. The fantasies Wonder Woman has summoned up might seem strange (especially since they seem to be revolving around her fondness for Steve). But this is a good way of showcasing what it is that makes Wonder Woman an unbreakable hero.

Wonder Woman Draws Strength from Love

Wonder Woman Sampere Cover DC

Love is a powerful force and for Wonder Woman, it’s everything she fights for. The endless compassion she feels for humanity is what helps her stay strong when she’s facing the most difficult of obstacles (and Sovereign is the most difficult foe she’s faced in some time). By looking inward and reminding herself of the love she fights for, Diana gives herself everything she needs to help her hang on. Sure, the Justice League hero is facing dire odds right now, but as long as Wonder Woman has love in her heart, she’s never going to lose.

Wonder Woman #9 is available on May 21st from DC Comics.

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman is the superhero identity of Diana, Princess of the Amazons. Created on the island of Themyscira, Wonder Woman is a super-powered demi-goddess with extreme physical strength who utilizes magical gifts (like her famous Lasso of Truth) to defeat her foes. As mighty as her fellow heroes Superman and the Justice League, Wonder Woman is unmatched in her compassion and virtue.
