The Umbrella Academy season 4 seems to be about to deal with a timeline warp, which solves a major Allison mystery left by season 3. The Umbrella Academy has been packed with twists, turns, and shocking reveals throughout three seasons, and now all its biggest mysteries will have to be solved in its fourth and final season. The Umbrella Academy season 3 ended on a massive cliffhanger after Reginald (Colm Feore) revealed his real intentions: using his superpowered children to power a machine inside Hotel Oblivion that would allow him to reset the timeline.

Reginald would also be able to create his own timeline, but all that required the sacrifice of his adopted children. Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) was spared thanks to a deal with Reginald, but she killed him at the last minute to save her siblings. Allison reset the timeline, resulting in the Hargreeves and Lila landing on a timeline where Reginald is alive and the most powerful man, his wife is also alive, Sloane is missing, and the Hargreeves are powerless. However, Allison had her daughter and her 1960s husband, which can now be explained by a recent season 4 tease.

A Timeline Warp Explains Allison’s Present & Past Family Coming Together

At the end of The Umbrella Academy season 3, Allison didn’t arrive at the new timeline with her siblings. Instead, Allison was seen arriving at her house and reuniting with her daughter, Claire, who in the previous timeline wasn’t her daughter, triggering Allison’s dark turn. To Allison’s surprise, her husband from the 1960s, Ray, was also there, so Allison finally got the family she wanted in her own timeline. However, this might not last long, as The Umbrella Academy might be dealing with a timeline warp and a much bigger mess than in previous seasons.

The Umbrella Academy showrunner Steve Blackman told EW that viewers should pay close attention to what happened between Allison and Reginald in the final minutes of season 3, as Reginald didn’t finish programming the machine as Allison killed him. Allison pressing the button before the timeline was ready will have consequences, with Blackman assuring that they are back to the time period they wanted to return to, but it’s an altered version of it. Blackman said that they “start in the right year” but something clearly isn’t right as Reginald didn’t finish what he started.

The timeline not being finished and the Hargreeves starting “in the right year” teases a timeline warp in The Umbrella Academy season 4, which explains why Allison has her daughter and Ray at the same time in her present day. This could also explain why the Hargreeves don’t have their powers, as either they weren’t “finished” in the timeline reset or they weren’t in Reginald’s plans, at all.

The Umbrella Academy’s Timeline Warp Can Make Way For Allison’s Redemption

If There’s One Character Needing Redemption, It’s Allison

The Umbrella Academy angry Allison in season 3 next to happy Allison in season 2

If The Umbrella Academy season 4 is about a timeline warp due to Allison killing Reginald before he finished the timeline’s reset, then Allison must be the one to fix it. Although Allison will be happy to have the family she wanted, Blackman’s words tease that this won’t last, which explains why the images released so far see Allison back with her siblings. Allison is the one member of the Umbrella Academy who needs redemption after everything she did and provoked in season 3, and fixing the timeline warp can be her path to redemption.

A timeline warp in The Umbrella Academy season 4 also explains why Cha-Cha’s (Mary J. Blige) mask can be seen in one of the promotional photos and the objects that new characters Gene and Jean are offered on the script page released on The Umbrella Academy’s social media accounts – but, in the end, all this chaos is a result of Allison killing Reginald, and though she did it to save her siblings, it had complex consequences.
