Warning! Spoilers for Bridgerton season 3 part 1!

The Bridgerton season 3 storyline for Anthony and Kate is a cop-out after season 2, as it undermines parts of the couple’s main journey. Bridgerton’s season 2 love story is mostly known for the strong emotional arc the main couple went through with each other. Though the two cared for one another throughout, Anthony and Kate’s love story also had several points of contention, including Anthony’s repressed trauma and Kate’s overprotectiveness of Edwina. Despite this, one of their strongest shared traits that trumped those trials was their devotion to their families.

Both Anthony and Kate’s formative years were devoted to maintaining the good names of their loved ones, giving them little ability to form their own identities. The Bridgerton siblings seemed largely ignorant of Anthony’s stress over this responsibility during season 2. This allowed Kate to connect with him over it, as she also knew what it is like to have that responsibility and be ignored. The main conclusion of that arc was how the two could handle those responsibilities together. However, Bridgerton season 3 has Anthony and Kate, instead of embracing that lesson, somewhat throw it away.

A key aspect of Netflix’s romance hit Bridgerton is the time period in which it takes place, and so far, the show has spanned over several years.

Anthony & Kate’s Decision To Extend Their Honeymoon Felt Rushed

Anthony and Kate’s quick decision to extend their honeymoon in Bridgerton season 3 undermines Anthony’s previous storylines that focus on family. Anthony’s season 1 and 2 arcs focused on how he planned to truly embrace the responsibility of being Viscount Bridgerton. Therefore, leaving Violet in charge during everyone’s, especially Francesca’s, Bridgerton season 3 story undermines Anthony’s growth. By having them simply leave, it appears as if Anthony and Kate no longer care about their duties despite the opposite being true. While this allows them to gracefully step away, Anthony and Kate’s decision still feels rushed and leaves them even less to do in part 2.

Anthony & Kate Do Little After Their Bridgerton Book

Anthony and Kate embrace each other in Bridgerton season 3 still

Though the two will return for the second half of Bridgerton season 3, Anthony and Kate could have little to do as both their absence and their storyline in the books provide little direction. In the Bridgerton books, Anthony and Kate are not involved in the stories after their own. The couple do appear, but the books mostly mention them in regard to their children and Anthony overcoming his fear of dying young. Despite these minimal details, Bridgerton season 3 could see the two being more active in the narrative, along with proceeding on their own journey.

Before their departure, Anthony and Kate’s main conversation topic was about having a baby. Bridgerton season 3 part 2 could reveal Kate’s pregnancy, allowing the two to return and settle back into their responsibilities. This could lead to them assisting Colin and Penelope as the threads left over from Bridgerton season 3, part 1’s ending complicate the new couple’s happily ever after. Not only would this give Anthony and Kate more to do, but it could also remedy the inconsistency left by their departure in Bridgerton season 3 part 1, closing their arcs of taking on responsibility together more securely.
