The Wheel of Time star Xelia Mendes-Jones has opened up about why the brutal death of his character, Renna, was “spot-on,” and made sense regarding the story being told. Renna is a Seanchan who, in season 2, forces Egwene into her service for her channeling powers, making her participate in the final battle of the season as well. However, at the end of The Wheel of Time season 2, Egwene manages to break free of her captivity, collaring Renna with the controlling a’dam device and using the One Power to hang her.

Speaking with Collider, Mendes-Jones explained how much-deserved Renna’s death was in The Wheel of Time season 2. The actor called the death “spot on,” explaining how her violent, controlling actions towards Egwene made it impossible for her to make it out alive. Check out what Mendes-Jones had to say below:

When you see how horrible Renna is, especially in the show where we have a lot more physical violence than the books did, she can’t make it out. She doesn’t deserve to…. I remember being really grateful that [showrunner] Rafe [Judkins] and [writer] Rammy [Park] had decided to take what was in the second book, really a page of dialogue reported by Egwene about her experiences as a damane, and turn it into a full, lived experience that the viewer gets to live with her.

When I found out the manner of death, it felt incredibly fitting. That was spot-on. Couldn’t have asked for anything more.

More to come…
