His grit and determination echo that of other neo-Western characters, like John Dutton, which makes Outer Range a great Yellowstone replacement — with a sci-fi twist. Of course, Royal isn’t without his own secrets, which come to a head in the show’s sophomore outing. The character is also a parent himself to the young Amy, and while the pressures of the ranch are certainly weighing on a season-one Perry, the disappearance of his wife, Rebecca, consumes a lot of his time and energy. The ending of Outer Range season 1 concludes with Perry leaping into the void to find Rebecca. The younger of Cecilia and Royal’s sons, Rhett Abbott is something of a wild card. In Outer Range season 1, he’s determined to become a championship bull rider, though everything that happens to the Abbott family pushes him to reconsider his life choices. Although he seemingly leaves the ranch behind at the end of season 1, Amy’s sudden disappearance pushes Uncle Rhett to return home. Although he may seem like an independent character, Rhett is just as protective of his family as Royal. Known for roles in projects like Top Gun: Maverick and Lessons in Chemistry, Lewis Pullman plays Rhettt.

Perry and Rebecca’s young daughter, Amy becomes central to Outer Range‘s many mysteries when she goes “missing” at the end of the first outing. Although Perry tries his best to shield Amy from life’s hardships — especially in the wake of Rebecca’s disappearance — things clearly catch up with all the members of the Abbott family. What most of the Abbotts don’t realize is that Rebecca took Amy (played by The Haunting of Hill House‘s Olive Elise Abercrombie) at the end of season 1, which means that the young girl has a chance to connect with her mother in the show’s sophomore outing.

Played by Lili Taylor (Six Feet Under), Cecilia Abbott is the family matriarch. Deeply religious and motivated by the love she has for her family, the ever-determined Cecilia is eventually worn down by all the tragedies that befall the Abbotts in Outer Range season 1. The sophomore outing of the sci-fi neo-Western sees the matriarch salvaging her resolve and demanding questions from Royal as the search for young Amy continues. The mother of Perry and Rhett, Cecilia understands how deeply painful it is for Amy to have gone missing, though she also knows more about what happened than most of the other Abbott family members.

Rebecca Abbott Is Perry’s Missing Wife

Rebecca Abbott Is Played By Kristen Connolly (Season 1) & Monette Moio (Season 2)

A peripheral character in Outer Range season 1, Rebecca Abbott becomes more important — in an on-screen sense — in the show’s second season. In fact, Outer Range season 2 answers what happened to Rebecca. Perry’s wife and Amy’s mother, Rebecca is something of an enigma, though she clearly loves her daughter very much. The character was initially played by Kristen Connolly (The Cabin in the Woods), but Monette Moio (Station 19) takes over the role in the sophomore entry all the way through to the ending of Outer Range season 2.
