Warning! Spoilers ahead for Green Lantern #11!One of the most outrageous changes from DC Comics’ New 52 period has stealthily been brought back. Green Lantern Guy Gardner has been sent on a mission to find and recover the galactic bounty hunter Lobo. But has the Emerald Knight accidentally found the Main Man’s most controversial substitute instead?

In Green Lantern #11’s backup story “Guy’s Bogus Lobo Adventure Part Two” by Jeremy Adams and Kevin Maguire, Guy Gardner has apprehended Lobo, at least, the Czarnian he believes to be Lobo. As Guy’s prisoner claims that he’s not Lobo, the Green Lantern tries to make contact with the Corps.

Unfortunately, Guy’s not the only one looking for Lobo and the two are confronted by other bounty hunters looking for the famed Czarnian. However, before the hunters can do anything, a Brainiac probe finds Lobo, recognizing him as an escaped prisoner and captures both him and Guy Gardner.

The New 52 came with a lot of changes. Some characters received new costumes or experienced small changes in their personal history. But one alteration was so out of left field, that it perplexes fans to this day. Lobo, the infamous rude n’ crude bounty hunter was revealed to have been an impostor who stole the ‘real’ Lobo’s identity. The New 52 Lobo was a major departure from his pre-Flashpoint counterpart and eschewed the over-the-top 90s’ parody nature of the original Lobo. Though the new Lobo tried to permanently replace the old one, it wasn’t long before the Main Man returned.

The New 52 Lobo was last seen during the DC Rebirth era, miniaturized and trapped in one of Brainac’s bottles. Curiously enough, the ‘Lobo’ that Guy has captured turns out to be a Czarnian that escaped Brainiac’s custody. Even more damning, Green Lantern’s suspect exhibits Lobo’s behaviors of saying ‘frag’ and calling himself the ‘Main Man’. Is it possible the New 52 Lobo somehow broke out of Brainiac’s clutches and tried to forge a new life? Either way, bringing the more controversial Lobo could be a good way of closing a chapter on this outrageous chapter from the New 52.

The New 52 Lobo Debacle Can Finally Come to an End

If Green Lantern’s suspect is indeed the New 52 Lobo, a few things would have to be cleared up (namely how he escaped Brainiac’s collection and bulked up like the other Lobo). But it could finally close out one of the most contentious parts of the New 52. The new, redesigned Lobo was quietly swept under the rug and ignored. Bringing him back and addressing the plot point head-on would be a much more fulfilling way of ending this unbelievable part of DC Comics’ history.
