Cobra Kai seems to be teasing yet another redemption story, one that would arguably be it’s most surprising yet. During its run, Cobra Kai has succeeded in turning multiple villains into trustworthy allies of the main characters. Even Chozen, who almost became a murderer in The Karate Kid Part II, is now counted as a friend to Daniel. Something similar can be said of Mike Barnes, who appeared to be devoid of likable qualities in The Karate Kid Part III, but was presented as a furniture store owner with real regrets about his actions in 1985.

Cobra Kai has also applied this approach to its original characters, allowing people like Robby, Hawk, and Tory to change their ways as well. With the show heading into its sixth and final season, the vast majority of Cobra Kai’s villains have already put their pasts behind them. And judging by what’s in store for Cobra Kai season 6, more characters will look to turn over a new leaf when the Netflix series returns. That’s not necessarily shocking, considering that Terry Silver lost his hold on many of the kids he had manipulated into following him. But while there may have been an expectation for a character like Kenny to switch sides, that certainly wasn’t the case for Kyler.

Cobra Kai Quietly Spoils That A Major Dojo Betrayal Will Be Forgiven In Season 6

Ahead of Cobra Kai season 6’s release, it’s already confirmed that major betrayal that occurred during the dojo war will soon be forgiven.

Cobra Kai Hints Kyler Will Join Johnny & Daniel’s Dojo

The cast of Cobra Kai in the season 6 trailer.

In the Cobra Kai season 6 trailer, Kyler can be seen cheering alongside Miguel, Demetri, and Hawk. His inclusion in this particular shot is interesting, given that none of the three appear to be at odds with Kyler in this scene. Rather, he seems to be with them, as if they’re all friends having fun together. Kyler wouldn’t be the first person to leave Cobra Kai for Johnny and Daniel’s dojo, but unlike Robby, Miguel, and Tory, there was never a feeling that he was out of place there. In fact, Kyler’s status as the main bully of Cobra Kai season 1 made him an appropriate addition to Kreese’s roster in season 3.

Yet, based on this tease for Cobra Kai season 6, there’s a real possibility that Kyler will be a member of Johnny and Daniel’s dojo. Other long-time members of Cobra Kai were shown in the trailer and official season 6 photos, so it’s not implausible that he too would be offered a chance to join the dojo. Plus, he rejected Terry Silver along with his peers in Cobra Kai season 5’s ending, so if he wanted to stay in karate and compete in the Sekai Taikai, aligning with his enemies may indeed be a move he’d consider.

Despite Season 6’s Hints, Kyler Shouldn’t Be Trusted

Of course, being on the side of the good guys wouldn’t assure Kyler a redemption arc in Cobra Kai’s final season. With his past, it would be premature to assume anything of his long-term future, regardless of what choice he makes at the start of the season. A promise of personal gain, similar to what happened with Mitch, could easily make him the dojo’s next traitor. What’s been established about his character thus far supports that scenario.

Kyler always came across as a good fit for Cobra Kai, especially since both Kreese and Silver’s orders never seemed to create any moral conflicts for his character. He went all along with whatever he was told and even instigated fights on his own in Cobra Kai. What’s more, Kyler was shown to be a problem that was not a product of Cobra Kai’s teachings; while Kreese and Silver’s training made him more dangerous, his actions in season 1 and 3 demonstrated that this was just the kind of person he was. Whereas Kenny was led astray by Cobra Kai, Kyler appeared to be following his own instincts.
