WARNING! Potential spoilers ahead for Transformers #9

Optimus Prime and the Autobots are currently riding high in the Energon Universe, but the preview for next month’s Transformers #9 sees the tables being turned for the heroes of Hasbro’s premier franchise. Now that Soundwave has taken his place as leader of the Decepticons, the Transformers’ famed enemy faction is deadlier than ever in the new continuity.

Coming from the creative team of Daniel Warren Johnson, Jorge Corona, Mike Spicer and Rus Wooton, Transformers #9 picks up from the ending of the previous issue, which saw Soundwave contacting Shockwave on Cybertron. Check out the preview below:

The arrival of Shockwave spells trouble for the Autobots, and the ability to open a bridge between Cybertron and Earth could have major ramifications in the Energon Universe moving forward.

Shockwave Arrives on Earth to Deliver A Crushing Blow to the Autobots

Ever since the shocking death of Bumblebee in Transformers #1, the Energon Universe era of the franchise has had a rather high body count. The arrival of Shockwave seems to be setting up another major death, as Cliffjumper finds himself at the mercy of the Decepticon in the last page of the preview. The Autobots had a victory on their hands after retaking the Ark from the Decepticons in previous issues, which is what led to Starscream being replaced by Soundwave as the Decepticon leader.

The Autobots’ good fortune could be running out in the upcoming issue, as Soundwave has organized the Decepticons in a way that Starscream was unable to accomplish. By reclaiming the Decepticon warship Nemesis from the bottom of the sea, Soundwave was able to use the ship’s antenna to contact Shockwave on Cybertron. Now that readers know the Decepticons are able to arrive on Earth via a bridge from Cybertron, that could be a game-changing revelation for the entire Energon Universe. This opens up the possibility for not only more Cybertronians to arrive on Earth, but it also means the cast of sister title Void Rivals could get involved with the Earthly events at some point.

Will More Decepticons Arrive on Earth From Cybertron?

The ability to cross the stars in an instant from Cybertron to Earth raises all sorts of interesting story possibilities, and the revelations of the Energon Universe Special suggest a major crossover coming for the Skybound’s shared universe. Void Rivals looks to be exploring more corners of the Transformers franchise, and Megatron has broken free from his imprisonment from Cobra-La, so several balls are in motion for a massive story to play out in Skybound’s successful line of comics. The Energon Universe is heating up in its second year, and now that more Transformers are arriving on Earth via a space-bridge, anything is possible.
