Young Sheldon star Iain Armitage candidly addresses whether he’ll appear in the upcoming spinoff Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. Sheldon Cooper’s older brother is stepping into the spotlight, as Georgie Cooper (Montana Jordan) and Mandy McAllister (Emily Osment) are set to headline their own multi-camera comedy for CBS. Described as a sequel to Young Sheldon, the spinoff does not currently have a premiere date but it’s confirmed to debut on CBS later this year.

In an interview with TVLine, ahead of the Young Sheldon series finale, Armitage discussed the possibility of appearing in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. The actor said he would be up for it if he got the call to reprise his role, mentioning what it might be like to get to embody Sheldon again. But, at the same time, Armitage noted that he’s excited to watch the spinoff and concluded by praising Osment and Jordan. Read the quote below:

If I got a call to go back, that’d be so much fun. I’d be honored to. I’m also just excited to get to sit back on my couch with some popcorn and watch their show because they’re so good. But I could totally see myself getting in the khakis again, putting on the old penny loafers and bow tie, and going back out on the job.

It’s going to be so fun to see. Montana and Miss Emily are both so funny and so talented, and they play off each other so well. They’re very contrasting characters… and I love them together so much.

Young Sheldon’s Characters Will Continue In Georgie & Mandy’s Spinoff

Two Actors Are Already Reprising Their Roles

The spinoff promises to follow the titular couple as they raise their young family in Texas. Georgie and Mandy will do this while they navigate the challenges of adulthood, parenting, and marriage. But they won’t be entirely on their own. It’s already been confirmed that Mad TV alum Will Sasso and Dear Evan Hansen star Rachel Bay Jones have been cast as series regulars in the upcoming Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, reprising their roles as Mandy’s parents Jim and Audrey.

Young Sheldon Season 7 Brings Back A Long-Forgotten Georgie Story To Set Up His TBBT Future

After six years, Young Sheldon season 7 officially brings back a dropped Georgie storyline ahead of his and Mandy’s sequel spinoff show.

Steve Holland, who created the spinoff alongside The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre and Young Sheldon executive producer Steven Molaro, has indicated that Young Sheldon‘s characters could potentially appear in the sequel series, but there’s a reason Sheldon might not want to show up. Facing predetermined events, a problem Young Sheldon also faced, his relationship with older brother Georgie is somewhat strained, and that does not get fully resolved until The Big Bang Theory. By that point in the franchise’s timeline, of course, different actors are playing Georgie and Sheldon.

The spinoff does have an interesting opportunity to fill in some gaps between Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory. But it does seem as though the spinoff would likely want to establish its own storylines and multi-cam rhythms before revising the stories of other shows. Still, as Armitage says, an eventful appearance in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is on the table.
