Apple TV+ has gotten into the multiverse game with Dark Matter, a new sci-fi drama created by Blake Crouch. The series is based on Crouch’s 2016 novel of the same name, partially inspired by an article on quantum mechanics he read in Scientific American. In the series, a Chicago-based physicist named Jason Dessen—played by The Green Knight’s Joel Edgerton—who is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Desperate to save his family from himself, Jason struggles against a labyrinth of realities to return to his true home.

Screen Rant presents a clip from Dark Matter episode 3 that centers on an interrogation of Jason Dessen. It showcases key members of the Dark Matter cast—aside from Edgerton, the clip features Dayo Okeniyi as Leighton Vance and Jimmi Simpson as Ryan Holder. Take a look at the clip and get ready to watch new episodes of the show when they release Wednesdays on Apple TV+.

Dark Matter Continues To Prove That Apple TV+ Excels At Bringing Sci-Fi Books To The Screen

Screen Rant’s Dark Matter review gave a glowing overview of the show’s thoughtful approach, heady concepts, and thrilling execution, and the show’s Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes suggests other critics have thought the same. The success of the series is a continuation of an exciting Apple TV+ trend, as the platform has proven once more that it is a welcome home to strong science fiction book-to-show adaptations. Some of the most successful and discussed shows in Apple TV+’s ever-expanding sci-fi collection are based on preexisting novels and short stories.

One prime example of this is Silo. Silo season 2 is on the way after the first season successfully adapted the beginning of author Hugh Howey’s book series of the same name. That post-apocalyptic series began with the 2011 release of the short story “Wool”, which was turned into a book of the same name after being paired with other short stories set in the same world. The first season of the show, starring Rebecca Ferguson, Common, and Tim Robbins, borught all the mystery and tension of Howey’s books to life and created an instant hit for Apple TV+.

Apple TV+ also adapted the work of legendary sci-fi writer Isaac Asimov into the series Foundation, which is heading into season 3. Though there are differences between the Foundation show and books, the series is largely known to have successfully bring Asimov’s generation- and galaxy-spanning story to the small screen. With Dark Matter taking on alternate realities, it’s clear that Apple TV+ is crafting sci-fi offerings for fans of every flavor of the genre.
