The Marvel Cinematic Universe will have an atypical year in 2024, with only a few releases, and the upcoming Agatha Harkness spinoff has been tricking fans all along. Kathryn Hahn first played the evil witch Agatha Harkness in 2021’s WandaVision, with the character going up against Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff and playing a role in her journey to becoming the Scarlet Witch in the MCU. WandaVision‘s ending left Agatha in a curious spot, with Wanda making Agatha believe she was her nosy neighbor Agnes persona and remaining trapped in Westview.

Hahn’s hilarious performance in WandaVision made Agatha Harkness the breakout character of the series. Following the show’s success, a spinoff focused on the witch entered development, with production on Agatha’s upcoming Disney+ show having ended in May 2023 and reshoots taking place last February. With the series having finished filming, it remains to be seen when Agatha will return to the small screen, with a release in early fall 2024 after being pushed back from winter 2023 as the current plan. Besides that, the MCU TV show carries a major mystery that has had a recent new chapter.

Agatha will see the return of Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness alongside Aubrey Plaza and Joe Wicke. Here are all the details so far.

The MCU’s Agatha Harkness Spinoff Has Changed Its Name Multiple Times

Agatha Seemingly Has Had Another Title Change

Hahn’s first solo MCU entry is one of the most intriguing projects in the franchise, with the Agatha Harkness series going through multiple title changes since it was first announced. The upcoming MCU series was first announced as Agatha: House of Harkness. Then, Marvel Studios released a new title for the show — still in the same direction — making the series Agatha: Coven of Chaos. Both titles seemed to hint at the plot of the series, with Agatha possibly assembling a new coven of witches for herself in the show.

Then, one of the cast members of the Agatha Harkness series, Joe Locke, who is rumored to play Wanda and Vision’s son, Billy Kaplan, shared a set photo with a chair that featured an Agnes of Westview logo. That title connects to Agatha’s WandaVision ending. Locke deleted his post later, which is the same thing that has happened to the Agatha Harkness series’ most recent title. Marvel Studios recently released a new title for the series, Agatha: The Lying Witch with Great Wardrobe, before deleting it. Before that, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries was believed to be the final title.

Theory: The MCU’s Many Spinoff Name Changes Are Intentional

Agatha Is Up To Her Usual Schemes

While it is not uncommon for MCU projects to change names leading up to release, as was the case for 2025’s Captain America: Brave New World — previously New World Order — the multiple changes to the title of the Agatha Harkness series suggest that something else is in play besides mere indecision on Marvel’s part. Back when the delay of the Agatha Harkness series from 2023 to 2024 was reported by Variety, the publication revealed that a source said the reason for the title changes was because “Agatha is up to her old skulduggery.”

In WandaVision, Agatha became a popular character due to the witch’s unpredictable nature and Hahn’s fun performance. Agatha was revealed to be the one behind everything with the hit song “Agatha All Along.” The series’ shifting titles could just be a creative marketing ploy from Disney, meant to connect with the character’s talents. Going a step beyond, it is even possible that Marvel Studios could be making coy reveals without fans noticing it, and all the released titles for the series will end up being the titles of the episodes in the Agatha Harkness show.

Agatha Already Has The Perfect Name

It Was “Agatha” All Along

While Marvel Studios has released several elaborate titles for the series, hinting at its plot, Agatha’s MCU past, and even a couple of references to other Disney movies, the real title of the TV show might be simpler than expected. Hahn’s character exploded in popularity with her “Agatha All Along” song from WandaVision, and the famous song presents the perfect title reveal for the series, with the show simply being titled Agatha.

That would perhaps be the best possible ending to the series’ ongoing title shifts. Based on what is known about the nature of Hahn’s character and the unprecedented number of titles revealed for the series, it is almost certain that Marvel Studios is trying out a fresh marketing strategy for the show. As the Agatha Harkness series only exists due to Hahn’s breakout role in WandaVision, it would only be fitting that the show’s title changes harken back to the character’s most famous moment in the series.

Agatha: Darkhold Diaries

Starring Kathryn Hahn as the titular Marvel witch, Agatha: Coven of Chaos reveals how Scarlet Witch’s enemy broke Wanda Maximoff’s binding spell at the end of WandaVision. Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, Emma Caulfield, and Ali Ahn join Hahn in the MCU Phase 5 spinoff series, released on Disney+.
