PlayStation Plus is about to get a little more nostalgic as Sony confirms that one of the first AAA games released on the PlayStation 4 will arrive on the subscription service in May. As a part of the platform’s multi-tier approach, users can opt to upgrade their PS Plus membership to the Extra or Premium level, unlocking a massive library of downloadable games pulled from the console’s past. While many of these are first-party Sony titles, there are a few external games that manage to crack the nod every once in a while, especially if they have a decent following.

Per True Trophies, Ubisoft’s open-world action game Watch_Dogs, the game that kickstarted the franchise, will arrive on PS Plus Extra and Premium on May 21. The PlayStation 4 game previously had a presence on the surface but was removed in September 2023 for unknown reasons, disappoint fans of Aiden Pearce and his almost supernatural hacking abilities. While it may not seem like a major addition, players many want to return to the original Watch_Dogs for a nostaglic look at the past and reminisce about the times when there weren’t too many titles available for the PlayStation 4.

Watch_Dogs Is A Simple Gem

It Could Be A Breath Of Fresh Air

While the original Watch_Dogs recieved mixed to positive reviews when it was released in 2014, the underrated open-world game could be a decent change of pace from Ubisoft’s current formula. It may have stuck to the tried-and-tested design pillars the publisher pioneered, but it also trims the fat that’s become synonymous with titles like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry. Whereas recent Ubisoft games often feel too big and cluttered with hundreds of pointless activities, Watch_Dogs is more focused, even if its protagonist isn’t all that interesting.

Still, looking past Aiden Pearce and his raspy voice, players will find plenty to love about Watch_Dogs. The hacking mechanic is quick and easy to use, creating situations where uses are able to course all kinds of chaos with the press of a single button. It also boasts an impressively detailed recreation of Chicago that’s populated by thousands of NPCs that can be scanned and studied to learn more about their goals, motivations, and potential threats.

Watch_Dogs isn’t the only underrated Ubisoft game coming to PlayStation Plus in May as Sony also confirmed that The Settlers: New Allies will also join the ranks of Extra and Premium. The dense real-time strategy game, released in early 2024, tasks players with taking control of one of three factions and spreading their power and influence across the land. It should make for a fun palate cleanser once defeating crime syndicates as Aiden Pearce becomes a little too much.
