Tom King hasn’t gone easy on Wonder Woman during his ongoing comic run, throwing A-list villain after villain at Diana, including Darkseid’s daughter and the newly introduced Sovereign. With each battle, though, the Amazon Princess has emerged victorious. However, in DC’s summer blockbuster event, Absolute Power, Wonder Woman will face her ultimate match, one that may prove to be insurmountable.

Absolute Power will see Amanda Waller’s war against metahumans reach its zenith as she battles the DC Universe’s greatest superheroes with the help of Brainiac Queen, Failsafe, and her newly created Task Force VII—a squad of seven power-stealing robots known as Amazos. This showdown will determine the fate of Wonder Woman, Superman, and other superpowered beings in the DCU.

Wonder Woman’s quest for the truth is placed on hold as she comes face-to-face with Amanda Waller’s latest toy, a TASK FORCE VII robot ready to take all her powers for good! Do the Justice League Dark have enough tricks up their sleeves to save our Amazon princess? Find out as this tie-in to “Absolute Power” begins!

On July 17, 2024, Wonder Woman #11—a tie-in title to Absolute Power—by Tom King and Tony S. Daniel, will witness Diana’s clash with her own Amazo, unofficially dubbed the Amazo-N. A battle that could possibly see the Amazon Warrior lose her character-defining abilities.

Introducing the AMAZO-N: Amanda Waller’s Wonder Woman-Specific Amazo

Absolute Power 1 Timms Variant Cover NF: a group of Amazo androids.

According to the synopsis for Wonder Woman #11, Diana’s ongoing story arc involving the Sovereign and her quest for truth will be put on hold as the events of Absolute Power come crashing down on her. In this issue, Wonder Woman will find herself confronting one of Waller’s seven Amazos, a battle with incredibly high stakes since the robot has the ability to drain her powers permanently. With other solicitations for Absolute Power confirming Superman’s loss of powers to Waller’s Task Force IIV, the odds aren’t looking good for Diana. However, there may yet be hope for the Amazon.

Even though Wonder Woman will be facing her greatest match yet, she luckily won’t be alone, as the Justice League Dark is teased to come to her aid. This team is known for specializing in supernatural and mystical threats that are beyond the scope of conventional superheroes, its members usually consisting of magically inclined individuals. Despite mainly serving in the Justice League, Wonder Woman has also served on the JLD alongside Man-Bat, Detective Chimp, Zatanna, Swamp Thing, Constantine, and Doctor Fate. Hence, it appears that her old team will be returning to aid her in her greatest time of need.

The Lasso of Truth: Wonder Woman’s Ultimate Weapon Gets Turned Against Her by Amazo

Wonder Woman wielding her Lasso of Truth, DC Comics

While it is unclear how the Amazo will get the drop on Diana, the cover for Wonder Woman #11 may provide a clue. In the cover, Diana is depicted bound and strung up by her very own weapon – the Lasso of Truth – with the giant figure of an Amazo looming in the background, suggesting a connection between the two. It is highly probable that Waller got her hands on Diana’s Lasso, considering that the most recent release of King’s Wonder Woman run had Diana imprisoned by the Sovereign with the Lasso of Truth nowhere in sight.

This theory gains further credibility when considering the synopsis for Wonder Woman #11, which states “Wonder Woman’s quest for the truth is placed on hold.” As of April 2024, it is unclear what “truth” Diana is searching for. However, this could be a clever play on words with the “truth” mentioned here referring to Wonder Woman’s possibly lost Lasso of Truth. If it turns out that this is what the synopsis is referring to, it is even more plausible that the lasso came into Waller’s possession and will now be used against Diana in her battle with the Amazo-N.

Wonder Woman vs. Amazo-N: Diana Prince Meets Her Ultimate Match in Absolute Power Variant Cover

Absolute Power 1 Craig Variant Cover: an Amazo attacks Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman #11 isn’t the only solicitation teasing that Diana is about to meet her ultimate match. Additionally, Wes Craig’s variant cover for Absolute Power #1 by Mark Waid and Dan Mora (on sale July 3, 2024) shows Wonder Woman facing off against the Amazo-N, and she is far from winning this fight. Laying atop rubble and crushed under the foot of the Amazo, Diana is depicted screaming out in pain. What’s particularly notable about this variant cover is that the Amazo-N has a Wonder Woman-specific design as well, which would make Diana’s loss to the Robot even more devastating.

While the variant cover could simply be stunning art, it aligns with the severity of this impending face-off teased in the other solicitations. Therefore, Craig’s variant cover could very well be hinting at the outcome of Wonder Woman’s battle against the Amazo-N. An outcome in which she would be joining the ever-growing ranks of heroes, including Superman, who have lost their powers to Amanda Waller’s Task Force VII. Hence, Waller is primed to do what no other villain in the DC Universe has ever done: defeat Wonder Woman once and for all.

Amanda Waller’s TASK FORCE VII Robot Could Lead to Wonder Woman’s Ultimate Defeat

While Waller’s Task Force VII is undoubtedly a clever strategy, it also feels a little like cheating, considering that she is employing numerous overpowered robots to do her dirty work. The July solicitations suggest that the Amazos are dominating the Justice League in the battle against the Trinity of Evil and DC’s heroes. This is particularly evident in the defeat of the entire Superman family by Waller’s Last Son Amazo. Considering the Superman family’s status as one of the most powerful superhero clans in the DC Universe, it’s improbable that other heroes will fare much better against such a formidable threat.

However, with legends Mark Waid and Dan Mora at the helm of this storyline, it is unlikely that disappointment will abound. So, despite the high stakes Wonder Woman faces in Absolute Power, it’s improbable that the creative duo would kill off or drastically alter Diana’s character in an irreparable way. While there’s a chance the Warrior Princess may lose her powers to the Amazo-N, Wonder Woman is bound to find a way to persevere and continue embodying the heroism that fans adore.
