The popular shark attack movie franchise is returning for another installment, and there are already a ton of exciting updates about 47 Meters Down 3. In 2017’s 47 Meters Down, sisters Lisa (Mandy Moore) and Kate (Claire Holt) struggle to maintain their sanity after being trapped underwater in a diving cage among sharks. 47 Meters Down: Uncaged tells an entirely new story as its characters explore an underwater city and are once again attacked by bloodthirsty sharks. Though the shark attack genre is hardly new, the 47 Meters Down franchise has brought it into the 21st century.

Critically speaking, both 47 Meters Down films have been somewhat poorly received by critics, and though they’re better than the cheesiest shark attack movies, they’re hardly high art as well. Fortunately, they have proven to be hits at the box office, and their low budget has kept the profit margin high between 47 Meters Down and its 2019 sequel. Now, plans are in place to bring the shark madness back to the big screen, and 47 Meters Down 3 is already in the works.

Since 47 Meters Down 3 is scheduled to begin filming in fall 2024, it’s a safe bet that the studio is aiming for a summer 2025 release window. 47 Meters Down 3 Story Details

A Father-Daughter Team Is Attacked By Sharks

While all the details haven’t been announced yet, the basic framework of 47 Meters Down 3 has already been revealed. Like it’s predecessor, the threequel will tell an entirely new story with new characters that pit them against a gaggle of blood-thirsty great white sharks. The film will follow a father and daughter diving team who are investigating a shipwreck in the deep ocean. Unfortunately for them, they become trapped by killer sharks and must try to survive with a dwindling oxygen supply.

Though the plot sounds eerily reminiscent to that of 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, it has also been announced that the threequel will feature family drama as the father and daughter try to reconnect. Perhaps 47 Meters Down 3 could introduce the family dynamic which will make the audience care more for the characters, and it will give them something bigger to fight for besides simple survival.
