Attack on Titan is best known for its electrifying opening themes; however, its most underrated ending theme reveals a surprising connection to an unexpected Jujutsu Kaisen character. The gorgeous voice behind Attack on Titan’s first-ever ending theme may be more familiar than fans think, with a prominent appearance in Jujutsu Kaisen and many other popular anime.

The artist behind Attack on Titan‘s first ending theme, Beautiful Cruel World, surprisingly also voices Utahime Iori from Jujutsu Kaisen. The criminally underrated ending theme performed by Yoko Hikasa is often overshadowed by Attack on Titan‘s flashier opening themes and its iconic soundtrack by Hiroyuki Sawano. However, it may in fact be one of the best tracks used in the anime, with no small thanks to Hikasa’s breathtaking vocals, which make it difficult to believe that she is indeed the same person who voices Utahime from Jujutsu Kaisen.

While Japanese singers and voice actors are well known for being multi-talented, Yoko Hikasa’s performance in Attack on Titan‘s first ending theme is truly in a league of its own and highlights her brilliant range, which will hopefully see her appear in more upcoming anime both as a voice actor and a music artist.

Jujutsu Kaisen‘s Utahime Sings Attack on Titan‘s First Ending

Yoko Hikasa’s Versatility Shines as a Music Artist and Voice Actor

Most interestingly, Utahime’s name quite literally means song princess and the Jujutsu Kaisen Official Handbook even confirms that singing is a major part of Utahime’s cursed technique. Utahime’s innate technique, Solo Forbidden Area is said to boost a sorcerer’s cursed energy and is seen used at the beginning of Gojo’s battle against Sukuna. Hence, it isn’t very difficult to picture Utahime herself singing Attack on Titan‘s emotional ending with Kyoto’s Principal Gakuganji shredding the guitar beside her as he always does.

That said, while Utahime from Jujutsu Kaisen is among Yoko Hikasa’s more recent roles, it is by no means her only notable voice-acting role. Hikasa also appears as Rias Gremory in High School DxD, Emi Yusa in The Devil is a Part-Timer, and even Freida Reiss in Attack on Titan. She is also set to appear as Karameel in the upcoming anime adaptation of Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest. Hopefully, her upcoming roles will project her into the popularity she rightly deserves, giving fans the chance to hear her featured in anime more often, especially her singing voice.

Overall, it is certainly an interesting experience when two unexpected series to be connected in such a manner. Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen are among the most popular new-age anime and while each has their own star voice actors, their casts and their soundtracks certainly have hidden gems waiting to be discovered, much like Yoko Hikasa.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available from Crunchyroll.
