The Witcher star Freya Allan has revealed what audiences should expect from Ciri’s character in The Witcher season 4, and according to her, things are going to get dark and brutal. Adapted from the fantasy novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher debuted on Netflix in December 2019, starring Henry Cavill in the leading role as Geralt of Rivia, and Allan in a co-lead role as Princess Ciri. The show recently concluded its third season, and it has been confirmed that The Witcher will end after five seasons.

Speaking in an interview with Inverse, Allan spoke about what audiences can expect from the final two seasons in regard to her character, and teased how Ciri’s arc will be more brutal than what people have come to expect. She spoke about how Ciri has gone through a brutal and arduous journey so far, and the character has finally decided to take a stand and make sure she takes control of her life, and her future. Check out Allan’s full comments below:

“Ciri obviously has changed throughout, but we really see a different Ciri in this one. By the end of the last season she’s gone through so much that it’s the last straw. And I think she kind of ends up trying to reside in this other version of herself, and … she kind of enters a zone of just, ‘I’m just going to be brutal because I’m sick of the world being brutal to me. Ciri is really coming into being an adult and a woman — and not necessarily in the most healthy way.”

Will Ciri’s Brutal Experiences Lead Her To Become A Witcher?

What Ciri’s Future May Look Like In Season 4 & Season 5

Ciri has gone through a lot on the show, and has experienced some dark and unpleasant situations which have led her down a chaotic path. There is every chance that the princess of Cintra could end her arc by becoming a witcher herself, which occurs in the game The Witcher 3. The show is shining a light on the brutality of the world Ciri inhabits, and how she has to become harsher and crueler in order to adapt to her environment, and this is taking her story in an exciting and unexpected direction.

Whilst not much is known about Ciri’s season 4 and 5 story arcs, the ending of The Witcher season 3 saw her join a group of bandits known as the Rats after making her first human kill, and introducing herself as Falka. It seems very likely that the majority of Ciri’s season 4 arc will follow her time with the Rats, dealing with the loss of her powers, and her journey of self-discovery as she enters womanhood.

There are a lot of storylines that need to happen before The Witcher season 5 ends, and bringing Ciri’s story to a satisfying conclusion is crucial. Themes like free will will play a major role in the rest of the series as well. Whilst Ciri’s final destination is unclear, in many ways, The Witcher is her coming of age story, and it is the journey that will shape her more than the journey’s end. Allan’s comments give viewers a glimpse of what to expect from Ciri in the new seasons, and this could shape the rest of the character’s story.

Based on the novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski and the video games, The Witcher follows the story of Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. “Ciri” Cirilla is the Princess of Cintra, who has magical abilities and whose fate has been linked to Geralt’s. Yennefer of Vengerberg, a sorceress who trains to become a mage before deserting her duties and going solo, is also a main character in the Netflix series. The show’s storylines are intertwined but told throughout different timelines, all of which eventually catch up to Ciri’s, whose timeline of events is the most recent. Set on the Continent where men, monsters, and elves exist together, the characters all have separate journeys, though their destinies bring them into each others’ orbits.
