Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes director Wes Ball reveals the series’ most subtle Easter Eggs to the 1968 version of the film. The upcoming Planet of the Apes movies is the tenth installment of the franchise, and is the direct follow-up to 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set for release on May 10 and features a leading cast including Freya Allan, Owen Teague, William H. Macy, Dichen Lachman, and Peter Macon.

In an interview with ScreenRant at WonderCon, Ball reveals what Easter Eggs references to the 1968 version of Planet of the Apes can be found in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Check out the full quote from Ball below:

There’s stuff from the ’68 movie. There’s definitely stuff from the previous three movies. Even down to, I don’t know if any of the fans know the ’68 version. There was a scene with a baby doll and there was a baby doll, and we took literally that sound from the archives and we’re using it in this movie. So there’s stuff like that all over the place.

Even sounds that you heard from those movies that sound department is even inserting in here and there. Just trying to stay part of that tradition, that history, honor that stuff. But there’s Easter eggs everywhere for anyone who really, like I said, who have seen those movies, they’ll see a lot of that kind of stuff.

More to come…
