Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Venom #33! Venom has never been in more danger than he’s in right now in Marvel Comics lore. From Carnage amassing god-tier power to kill both Eddie and Dylan Brock, to the fact that the Venom symbiote himself is now currently without a host, leaving him vulnerable to attack. But that’s only the start of the Lethal Protector’s problems, as a mysterious new foe has just entered the Marvel arena, one that can only be described as the symbiote species’ natural predator.

In a preview for Venom #33 by Al Ewing and Juan Ferreyra, readers are thrown right into Marvel Comics’ ongoing event, Blood Hunt, where a vampire cult called Bloodcoven has used darkforce energy to block out the sun around the globe, allowing the vampires to rise up and take over the world. And two vampires have been tasked with delivering a terrifying payload to New York City: a symbiote-eating vampire.

As the earth is smothered in eternal night, VENOM unleashes their lethal justice on the hordes of bloodsucking vampires threatening the innocents of New York City. But there’s one vampiric foe that thirsts not for blood — but for SYMBIOTES! Vampires aren’t the only threat — the dead now rise! LEE PRICE, one-time host to the Venom symbiote, has been ripped from his grave. And he’s got a bone… or a brain to pick… with his old partner!

Meanwhile, Venom is without a host, as he believes Dylan Brock is dead. So, in order to fight this new foe, Venom will have to bond with the corpse of another former host, Lee Price (which is featured on the cover of this preview as well as the official description, as seen above). However, that may not be enough to keep Venom safe from the symbiote-eating vampire, especially as hordes of the undead are wreaking havoc all around him.

Venom’s Symbiote-Eating Vampire is a Creature Even the Other Vampires Fear

Readers spend the majority of this preview with the two vampires flying a plane carrying the symbiote-eating creature in its coffin before dropping it on New York City, which offers great insight into what fans have in store for them when they finally see this new monster in action. The vampires express general concern about their mission, saying that the creature “doesn’t know when to stop”. Its natural prey seems to be symbiotes, but once those are gone, these vampires seem to think that it will eventually turn on them.

These vampires consider not completing their mission at all, fearing that unleashing the symbiote-eating creature could result in their own extinction. That’s a telling concern, as it not only speaks to how truly terrifying this monster is, but it also implies that the symbiotes – Venom included – don’t even stand a chance. There’s not one mention of how the symbiotes could overcome this creature, as these vampires seem to think that that outcome is utterly impossible.

Marvel’s Symbiote-Eating Vampire Might Actually Kill Venom

Venom's Eddie Brock in a hospital bed while Spider-Man, Iron Man, and the Fantastic Four mourn his death.

Venom has faced no shortage of villains with the capacity to end his life, but this time, the antihero might actually meet his end. The reputation of this symbiote-eating vampire has already successfully proceeded his official debut, which alone is enough to make fans nervous about Venom’s survival. However, Venom isn’t just facing the symbiote species’ natural predator, he’s doing so immensely weakened following Carnage’s attack. Venom is reduced to clinging to the dead bones of a former host just to survive, which is a terrible way to go into what may be the fight of his life.

Right now, the few things fans know about the threat that this symbiote-eating vampire poses to Venom is the fact that this monster is the symbiote’s natural predator, other vampires fear it and consider it something that symbiotes don’t stand a chance against, and Venom is going into this fight incredibly weakened. Only time will tell if this new villain will actually live up to its reputation, but as of now, it seems likely that Marvel Comics has just unleashed a predator that will finally kill Venom.

Venom #33 by Marvel Comics is available May 8, 2024.

Venom

Venom is the name of an alien lifeform in the Marvel Comics canon that first premiered as a formless symbiote alien in “The Amazing Spider-Man” comic series. Initially a villain, Venom continued to bond with hosts such as Spider-Man and Eddie Brock, who affected his personality and eventually evolved into an antihero known as “The Lethal Protector.”
