7 Best Relics To Get First In Sea of Stars (& Where To Find Them)

7 Best Relics To Get First In Sea of Stars (& Where To Find Them)

There are several Relics in Sea of Stars to enhance or modify your gameplay, but some stand out more than others. Relics are, essentially, special gear you can equip on playable characters from the turn-based RPG that will have extra effects. There is, for instance, a Relic that will grant additional EXP points to the party with every won battle, while others can significantly increase or decrease the overall difficulty of the game’s combat. Because these are mainly modifiers, there are not too many of them available, but you should use them as long as they help you progress or have a better time with the title.

Sea of Stars is a turn-based RPG from Sabotage Studios, the creators of The Messenger. The new title is, in fact, a prequel to the 2018 platformer, though it is set many years before the story of the Ninja. Despite the connection between the lore of both games, you do not need to play The Messenger before Sea of Stars to understand the story of the turn-based RPG. Sea of Stars is a complete title in its merit with its own set of gameplay mechanics and story. One of its unique mechanics is the presence of Relics, which directly impact how the gameplay will be presented.

7 Amulet of Storytelling

One of the best Relics in Sea of Stars is also one of the first ones that is obtained. Amulet of Storytelling is a piece of gear that, when equipped, will increase all the party members’ HP by 100% and, in addition to that, auto-heal the team after each battle. This makes the game significantly easier, but it also makes Sea of Stars more inserted in the format of modern RPGs, which dispense the constant usage of HP-recovery items after encounters, thus forcing players to find provisions and other resources.

Using the Amulet of Storytelling in Sea of Stars is an excellent way of staying on the campaign without having to sidetrack and farm resources too often. Luckily, this Relic is given out for free during the game’s early stages and does not need to be sought, as it is automatically delivered to you after completing the prologue section of the RPG.

6 Sequent Flare

Another fantastic Relic to use in the early stages of Sea of Stars is called Sequent Flare. Party members create a highly visible flare when this Relix is equipped when a hit or block is properly used. This is a fantastic way of confirming that the input of the timed action was accurate. Sequent Flare is a visual aid used to improve the feedback received from these commands, thus giving a better understanding of the best time to use them.

It does not have to be used throughout the game but is one of the best Relics to use initially. It can also help you notice any input delays you may have with your peripherals, therefore helping you act preemptively. The Subsequent Flare Relic in Sea of Stars is also granted for free at the start of the game, along with Amulet of Storytelling, after completing the prologue in the campaign.

5 Tome of Knowledge

A market place with two characters passing through in Sea of Stars

Stepping away from the early-game Relics comes another extremely valuable piece of gear called Tome of Knowledge. This Relic can be equipped by any character, and when it is, it will grant a 20% increase to the XP gained by the entire party. This substantial boost can help quickly level the playable characters from Sea of Stars. Characters with higher levels tend to have better stats and skills and, with these, boast better performances in battles, so it is an indispensable Relic to use.

The only issue with the Tome of Knowledge is that it can only be bought from a secret vendor. To obtain it, you will need to first arrive at the Port Town of Brisk in Sea of Stars. Upon doing so, you will need to use the ladder at the port to descend to the water level and swim beneath the southern dock. Beneath it lies a secret store, which will sell the Tome of Knowledge for 150 Gold.

4 Guardian Aura Or Dubious Dare

Sea of Stars characters face a Necromancer.

The next best piece of gear is actually a two-way tie between two vastly different Relics. Guardian Aura decreases the incoming damage from opponents by a whopping 30%. This can make most challenges in Sea of Stars significantly easier, thus facilitating the progress through the campaign as enemy encounters will pose less of a threat. On the other hand, Dubious Dare will increase the damage you take by 40%, making all encounters much more difficult.

The choice will ultimately depend on your intention as a player. If you prefer a less punishing experience, Guardian Aura is the way to go, while Dubious Dare is perfect for an increased challenge. Guardian Aura can be purchased from most of the vendors in Sea of Stars for 15 Gold, while Dubious Dare can only be found in the secret store in the Port Town of Brisk and is sold for 150 Gold.

3 Truestrike Pendant

Sea of Stars characters battle opponents on a icy mountain.

When enemies cast attacks in Sea of Stars, represented by locks that need to be broken by specific strikes, they gain a 20% resistance. With the Truestrike Pendant Relic, you can completely ignore this defensive bonus and deal true damage, unaffected by the resistance. Like many other Relics, this is a way of making the game easier. On the other hand, it does not make your party stronger but puts enemies on the same playing field as your team.

The Truestrike Pendant is not too difficult to acquire, as it is by several vendors spread across the world of Sea of Stars. It is a bit more expensive, however, being sold for 45 Gold. Because it is less costly than other precious Relics, it can be purchased relatively early on, especially if you are not spending too much Gold on ingredients and potions, for instance.

2 Gold Tooth

The Gold Tooth Relic is one of the best in Sea of Stars because it makes all purchases cheaper. By using it, all goods sold in stores will have their prices reduced by 10%. The percentage may have little impact on day-to-day items, like potions, but this item is great for purchasing more advanced gear for your characters.

The downside is that Gold Tooth is expensive. To buy it, you will need to invest a total of 225 Gold, making it one of the most expensive Relics in the game. Its benefit, however, does offset the initial investment cost. This Relic is only sold in the shop in the Town of Lucent, which may take a while to unlock.

1 Double Edge

As the name implies, the Double Edge Relic is a gamble to play with in Sea of Stars. It is one of the best in the game, but it can be risky. When equipped, it will increase opponents’ defense when casting attacks. As a countermeasure, however, it will significantly decrease their defense when they are exposed and not casting. Depending on the strategy employed by the party, this can be a cannon.

By having the team carefully pace their attacks, you can one-shot an entire group of opponents by taking advantage of the decreased defense when opponents are not casting. It will make damaging them when casting much more difficult, but this can be countered by using the Truestrike Pendant. There are many strategies and approaches to Sea of Stars, most of which depend on the chosen Relics.
