5 Similarities Between Fox’s Quicksilver And The MCU’s Version (& 5 Differences)

5 Similarities Between Fox’s Quicksilver And The MCU’s Version (& 5 Differences)

With Disney acquiring 21st Century Fox, the X-Men series can finally be merged with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Prior to that, both universes had the character of Quicksilver in common. Portrayed by Evan Peters, Fox’s speedster appeared in multiple movies in the X-Men series, while Aaron Taylor-Johnson played him in MCU’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

All things considered, there are a number of similarities between Peter and Pietro Maximoff. Some of these are through their connections to Marvel Comics while others are shared traits and mannerisms. Of course, since both versions are from different universes, there are also several things separate from one character to another and it’s worth noting what these are.

5 Similarities Between Fox’s Quicksilver And The MCU’s Version (& 5 Differences)

In both the Fox film series and the MCU, Quicksilver is given the chance to shine as audiences are shown his point of view. These sequences feature the world essentially stuck in a standstill while Quicksilver moves around at extreme speed perceiving everything in slow motion.

The Fox Quicksilver’s sequences were more memorable, as they generally featured a catchy soundtrack playing all the while he saved the lives of others without them realizing it. MCU Quicksilver’s slow-motion effect was done as a way of establishing the power he had acquired from the Mind Stone.

Different: They’re From Separate Countries

The Quicksilver from the comics was European and was named Pietro, as the MCU version was. However, MCU’s Quicksilver was shown to be from the country of Sokovia, which tied into the story of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Meanwhile, Fox’s Quicksilver had nothing to do with Europe.

This version was born and raised in America, and his accent reflected as such, while MCU’s Quicksilver carried a native Sokovian accent. He was also unaware of American customs due to having spent little time there, and Fox’s Quicksilver was very interested in American pop culture.

Of the brother-sister Maximoff pair, Quicksilver was the funny one, having the habit of making sarcastic remarks. He was also cocky and arrogant, best seen when he made fun of Hawkeye for not seeing his attack coming.

Peter Maximoff was a fast talker, who went off on his own tangents when joking around, with the likes of Wolverine finding him annoying as Quicksilver was shown to be quite the handful through his constant barrage of wisecracks.

Different: MCU Quicksilver Remained The Same Age In His Appearances

Due to the X-Men film series featuring ten-year time jumps after each movie, Quicksilver, born in 1956, went from a 17-year-old in Days of Future Past to a 37-year-old in Dark Phoenix. He also had a cameo in Deadpool 2, by which point he should’ve been as old as 62.

Meanwhile, MCU’s Quicksilver was born in 1989 and was shown to be a 26-year-old in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Since he died in the same movie, MCU fans have only seen a young version of the character, as opposed to Fox’s Quicksilver who matured from his boyish ways to becoming a leader.

Similar: Their Tendency To Place Themselves In Perilous Situations

Due to their overconfidence in their abilities, both Quicksilvers had the habit of falling into situations where their lives would be in danger. MCU’s Quicksilver tried to take on Thor himself, only to be beaten when he couldn’t lift Mjolnir.

Similarly, Fox’s Quicksilver figured he could take on Apocalypse and was marginally successful until the far superior mutant caught on to him and broke his leg. MCU’s Quicksilver eventually died when he chose to save Hawkeye from getting hit with bullets and got caught in the crossfire, while Fox’s version almost met his end against the Phoenix in Dark Phoenix as well.

Different: Magneto Is Fox’s Quicksilver’s Father

The identity of Pietro Maximoff’s father isn’t relevant to the MCU, as WandaVision showed he was the son of Oleg Maximoff in Sokovia. Fox’s Quicksilver stuck close to the comics by having Magneto be his biological father, a point that Peter Maximoff came to know about.

X-Men: Apocalypse had Peter attempt to do something with this knowledge, as he grasped the fact that his father was the mutant warlord Magneto. While Peter never got to experience a relationship with Magneto, Pietro had a father who did love him.

Similar: The Trademark Hair

It’s difficult to place the exact color of Quicksilver’s hair, with it appearing as a mixture of platinum, blond, and grey. Regardless, both versions of the character share this distinct style, which goes well with his “static” powers of speed.

Fox’s version veered a bit more toward straighter hair while MCU’s one had messier hair, but both of their hairstyles are the most notable aspect about their appearances. They were also known to wear clothes that went with the scheme of their hair, all of which created the Quicksilver effect.

Different: Fox’s Quicksilver Is Faster Than MCU’s Quicksilver

Evan Peters as Quicksilver in X-Men Apocalypse

While neither character is as fast as DC’s The Flash, Fox’s Quicksilver is easily quicker in speed compared to MCU’s version. Peter Maximoff’s speed was such that he saved people from an exploding mansion within a matter of seconds, along with perceiving things as if they were paused indefinitely.

Pietro was definitely faster than the average MCU character, yet he could be blindsided easily, as seen when Hawkeye took him down by shooting from below and Captain America knocked him out with his shield. He was also rather slow in saving Hawkeye’s life since he himself got shot in the process.

Similar: Both Are Close To Their Families

MCU’s Quicksilver started as a villain due to his hatred of Tony Stark, whose weapons were used in the bombing of Sokovia that took the lives of Pietro’s parents. He was then extremely close with his sister, to the point where Pietro’s death left Wanda depressed for a long time.

Fox’s Quicksilver wasn’t shown in his personal life as much, but it was clear he had a great relationship with his family. He opted not to interfere in the climactic battle in X-Men: Days of Future Past in order to keep his sister safe, along with establishing that he and his mother were also close.

Different: The Origin Of Their Powers

One of the interesting facts about MCU’s Quicksilver is that his powers weren’t as inherent to him as his sister’s. Quicksilver’s abilities were a result of experimentation done on him with the Mind Infinity Stone, which gave him powers of speed.

In contrast, Fox’s Quicksilver was a mutant, due to which he developed the ability to move at great speeds. It’s most likely that he inherited the mutant gene from Magneto, and Peter Maximoff had these powers from childhood whole MCU’s Quicksilver attained them as an adult.
