5 Sci-Fi Movies Cancer Will Love (& 5 They Will Hate)

5 Sci-Fi Movies Cancer Will Love (& 5 They Will Hate)

It is no wonder science fiction is a popular genre. The last few decades have seen a surge in science fiction movies and TV with special effects techniques becoming more varied and sophisticated. Shows like Star Trek are still going strong and James Cameron is still one of the most popular directors in Hollywood. One way to weed through the plethora of options and find out what you like or do not like is to consult the stars and ask astrology for guidance.

Those born under the sign of Cancer like creativity, innovation, and dedication, so there are plenty of science fiction movies for the Sign of the Crab to enjoy. Although Cancer signs generally like the concept and ideas behind science fiction, they do not like all of it. Here are a few sci-fi movies that Cancer signs are sure to enjoy

Love – Total Recall (1990)

5 Sci-Fi Movies Cancer Will Love (& 5 They Will Hate)

There is a lot here for Cancer to like. You have got the director Paul Verhoeven and leading man Arnold Schwarzenegger at the peak of their careers in a unique film, which is one of the last big-budget productions to use practical effects on a large scale.

Cancers love to watch professionals work, and in this case, the movie is a real feast for the eyes. The sets and costumes might not be slick or pretty, but they are not supposed to be, and the world of Douglas Quaid is deeply immersive. Underlying all of this is the simple question, “But is it real, or a dream?” which fascinates the philosophical Cancer.

Hate – Contact

Cancers will like this movie at first, as it highlights the relationship the ambitious main character has with her immediate family, but they will lose interest as the contrived plot limps along through hole after hole.

What starts out as a film with a lot of interesting settings and creative ideas eventually degenerates into emotional manipulation, tired stereotypes, and false equivalences, and the resolution, if you can even call it that, is laughable. All of which would annoy Cancer to no end.

Love – The Fifth Element

This movie has so much going on when it comes to sets, costumes, and other details like language, that a Cancer won’t be able to take their eyes off of it. The variety of creatures, venues, and clothes in this film puts any other science fiction franchise to shame. Even if the story was poor, Cancer would have a good time with The Fifth Element.

Luckily, the story is also great, using a wayward hero in search of redemption and the girl he loves, perfect to draw in the sentimental Cancer. Together they have to find and figure out a weapon to destroy some kind of nameless evil from the edge of the universe. How romantic!

Hate – Robocop

It has an interesting premise, Cancer has to admit, but Cancer would still have issues with this film. To start with, the setting is just too realistic. It is just Detriot in the future, and it looks pretty much the same as the one we already have. Cars, buildings, and clothing have not changed very much at all.

Even Robocop himself looks like an action figure, and although there is plenty of satire here it is not quite enough to excuse all the crazy stuff that happens, much of which has nothing to do with the plot. Put this on a space station or another planet, and Cancer would like it.

Love – Back To The Future

If you made a list of the zodiac signs and ranked them depending on which ones would be more likely to go back in time and visit their teenage parents, Cancer would be at the top of the list. It is not just the underlying family dynamics that make Cancer love this movie, though. It is also the tenacious and creative Doc Brown, who won’t give up after how many decades of work and finally succeeds.

Cancers need to connect with the characters and Back to the Future delivers. The story is ingenious yet simple, and not so flashy that it distracts from the actual plotline.

Hate – 2001: A Space Odyssey

Cancer already knows how ground-breaking and technically challenging this movie was to make, which is why they will not bother to watch it. The movie buff born under the sign of Cancer loves immersive stories, but it takes more than some impressive cinematography to keep their attention. Cancer is interested in the setting but that is not enough to take the place of a good story.

Granted, this movie has the immersion factor down, and Cancer is imaginative enough to understand the ending, but it is just too slow and plodding. Not enough happens to keep Cancers on the couch long enough to get through a symbolic journey through space and time that ends in a fancy hotel with a “space baby.”

Love – Tron (1982)

Tron succeeds with Cancers while other movies in the same vein fail because it also contains an interesting story about an unethical employer and a love triangle on top of a world made entirely of special effects. The respectful Cancer would give Disney props for taking on such a daring project.

True, the old film looks less polished than its more recent sequel, but to Cancers, that is all part of the vintage charm. In fact, the sequel lacks the humanity and character that the first one has and it has very little to offer in the way of new ideas, which means Cancer would not like it half as much.

Hate –  A.I. Artificial Intelligence

Cancer might like this movie at first due to the fact that it has some great design and effects choices. That is not enough for critical Cancer, who also needs a good story to prop that up.

Unfortunately, this sad story goes nowhere. This would infuriate sentimental Cancer signs, who like a good ending, even if it is not a happy one. The characters are unlikeable, dull stereotypes that are there to drive the plot more than anything else, giving Cancer no emotional connection to anything going on in this movie.

Love – Blade Runner 2049

Cancer loves the original Blade Runner too, and the sequel has everything its predecessor did, and a whole lot more. Not only do we have the drama of star-crossed lovers, but we also have that classic Cancer hook, the question of family and ancestry.

Beyond the complex story and sympathetic characters, we have some incredible set designs, special effects, and amazing costumes. Not only will Cancer love this, but they will also be glued to their seat the whole time and cry at the end. It is a good ending, sure, but Cancer will be crying because it is over.

Hate – War of the Worlds (2005)

Cancers usually love movies adapted from literature, since they tend to be avid bookworms, but this latest adaptation of War of the Worlds misses the mark. They would gravitate towards the main character, a bumbling family man who needs a chance to redeem himself, but that is the problem.

He never really does, and Cancer will notice the conspicuous lack of character arc. Finally, that little girl needs to stop screaming. Cancer does not mind when you scare grown-ups but bringing a kid into this is just mean.
