5 Rom-Com Movies Aquarius Will Love (& 5 They Will Hate)

5 Rom-Com Movies Aquarius Will Love (& 5 They Will Hate)

Romantic comedies can be hit or miss, and an Aquarius is going to be picky about which ones they watch. The air sign likes complex, intricate plots with dynamic characters, so the more generic the main characters and banal their love story, the more the Aquarius is going to check out! An Aquarius will award bonus points for an unconventional rom-com that isn’t afraid to subvert expectations.

Aquarius often like a large ensemble cast with a lot going on and inter-connected plot points. The stereotypical premise of boy meets girl, they fall in love, and then they have to resolve a conflict to be together won’t cut it.

WILL LOVE: PLAYING BY HEART

5 Rom-Com Movies Aquarius Will Love (& 5 They Will Hate)

Playing by Heart explores the meaning of love in the lives of 11 different people living in Los Angeles, from the steady kind that exists between a married couple, to the exciting kind that can blossom between two despondent singles, and everything in between.

This underappreciated rom-com gem will have Aquarians delighting in seeing the top ’90s Hollywood talent delivering moments of hilarity, heartache, and deep sorrow. Where else can they see Sean Connery, Angelina Jolie, Jon Stewart, Gillian Anderson,

WILL HATE: 27 DRESSES

Aquarians may be emotionally reserved at times, but they won’t appreciate watching an entire film about a perpetual bridesmaid named Jane (Katherine Heigl) continuously putting others before herself without so much as a peep out of her.

Jane pining over her boss (Edward Burns) will only make Aquarians more likely to think that of course, he would choose her more exciting and spunky sister over her unadventurous self. Meanwhile, Jane sleeps on James Marsden’s cute reporter, who spends the whole movie following her around like a puppy.

WILL LOVE: LOVE, ACTUALLY

Londoners falling in love is magic to an Aquarian’s ears, made better by the fact that this rom-com takes place during Christmas. Love, Actually has everything an Aquarian could want.

They’ll get a lot of variety from the many different storylines depicting all sorts of unconventional couples, and appreciate the heartfelt message of inter-connectedness. Musically inclined Aquarians will bop to the soundtrack no matter the season.

WILL HATE: FAILURE TO LAUNCH

Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker in Failure to Launch

Maybe it’s because Failure to Launch represents the peak of ’00s rom-com tropes, or because Matthew McConaughey already made the similarly inclined How To Lose a Guy In 10 Days, but there’s no failure when it comes to launching this film out of an Aquarian’s binge list.

When a 35-year-old slacker is having trouble getting out of the house, his desperate parents hire a femme fatale (Sarah Jessica Parker) to lure him out, thus making up the shallow premise to a film that thinks it’s more clever than it is, but Aquarians know better.

WILL LOVE: SOMETHING’S GOTTA GIVE

Aquarians can be both realists and dreamers. They can see the world for what it really is, but also take a step back and imagine all the ways it could be, which is why they would love the sarcastic repartee between Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton in Something’s Gotta Give.

The plot revolves around Keaton’s intellectual and reserved playwright who falls for Jack’s rakish playboy philanthropist, and Aquarians will love the slow, witty buildup to trust and love between the two Academy Award winners. Bonus – it also stars Keanu Reeves!

WILL HATE: SHE’S OUT OF MY LEAGUE

She's Out Of My League

With an ensemble cast of up and coming names in comedy, Aquarians might think they’re diving into another Love, Actually romp, but instead, She’s Out Of My League is just another sad collection of stale rom-com tropes.

The premise of the film surrounds an average TSA worker (rated at a “5”) pursuing an overly attractive young woman (rated at a “10”), and to the surprise of no one he ends up winning her favor. Aquarians are able to suspend disbelief, but their realism prevents them from accepting the outcome.

WILL LOVE: DOWN WITH LOVE

Down With Love stars Ewan McGregor and Renee Zellweger in an homage to rom-coms of the swinging ’60s. Aquarians will love the stylistic flair of this salute to Roman Holiday that happened well before La La Land.

The film pits feminist author Barbara Novak (Zellweger) against dashing writer Catcher Block (McGregor) in a battle of the sexes where romantic feelings threaten to derail their plans to ruin one another’s career. From the set design to the witty banter between the leads, Aquarians will marvel at the creativity and attention to detail.

WILL HATE: MY BEST FRIEND’S WEDDING

Michael introduced Kimmy to Julianne in My Best Friend's Wedding

Julia Roberts has been known for starring in rom-coms since Pretty Woman, but My Best Friend’s Wedding isn’t nearly as diverting as that ’80s gem. Aquarians will wonder how a rom-com could have so much distasteful behavior in it.

The film sees Roberts as food critic Julianne, a woman who’s just found out her childhood friend is getting married to someone else even though she always thought they’d wind up together. This gives her validation enough to try to sabotage the wedding and behave shamefully to him and his new bride.

WILL LOVE: THE WEDDING SINGER

Adam Sandler in The Wedding Singer

The Wedding Singer was the first film pairing of Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler, and their charisma together in it is as uplifting as its ’80s soundtrack. Aquarians will not only love the ’80s jams throughout the soundtrack but dig the iconic fashion.

Sandler plays a wedding singer who falls in love with a waitress who caters in one of his gigs, not realizing that she’s engaged to a Don Johnson wanna-be. The somewhat hokey story has genuine heart, and one of the most romantic endings of all time.

WILL HATE: JUST GOT WITH IT

Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler fist-bumping on the poster for Just Go With It

Both Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston may be known for making rom-coms, but being pros at the genre doesn’t make Just Go With It any less cringey. Aquarians will wonder where the “romance” and the “comedy” are after the credits roll.

Sandler plays a broken-hearted plastic surgeon who gets his assistant to pretend to be his wife so that he can continue to have romantic interludes with no strings attached. Things get unnecessarily complicated, and Aquarians will be very frustrated that every adult doesn’t act like one.
