2024 Awards Season Just Gave Us The 18-Year-Old Reunion We Never Knew We Needed

After 18 years, the 2024 SAG Awards finally gave us a The Devil Wears Prada reunion. The primary cast of this beloved movie hasn’t reunited in nearly two decades, which makes the first presenting group of the 30th annual SAG Awards both delightful and exciting. Of course, this also means that fans of the beloved film will be all the more hopeful for the Devil Wears Prada sequel that never happened.

The 30th SAG Awards is the first to be streamed live on Netflix, which makes the presenters for the first award—Best Male Actor in a Comedy Series—fitting since The Devil Wears Prada hit Netflix’s Global Top 10 in February 2024. Having initially released in 2006, the hit film has only become more iconic, and this has everything to do with the work of its cast. The stars’ chemistry was a spectacular example of what it means to be actors, making them perfect presenters for the first SAG Award of the year.

The Devil Wears Prada Cast: Where They Are Now

Besides being one of the defining comedies of the 2000s, The Devil Wears Prada featured an illustrious cast of big names and soon-to-be stars.

Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt & Meryl Streep Had A Devil Wears Prada Reunion At 2024’s SAG Awards

Meryl Streep was the first actor to hit the stage to present at the 2024 SAG Awards, and after joking that she had forgotten her glasses, the iconic actor was joined by The Devil Wears Prada costars, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt. The trio, who played Miranda Priestly, Andrea Sachs, and Emily Charlton, respectively, in the 2006 film, shared some playful banter on stage before announcing the nominees for Best Male Actor in a Comedy Series.

Not only were actors reunited for the first time in 18 years, but they even shared some quotes from The Devil Wears Prada, with Hathaway turning the tables on Streep by giving her some iconic Miranda snark. Additionally, as pointed out by the Netflix host, Streep fittingly came on stage wearing a Prada gown, while Hathaway wore a Cerulean blue gown—a deep-cut reference to a significant moment of The Devil Wears Prada that any fan would appreciate.

Why The Devil Wears Prada 2 Never Happened

Miranda pondering at her desk in The Devil Wears Prada

As exciting as Streep, Hathaway, and Blunt’s reunion at the 2024 SAG Awards was, it’s a bittersweet reminder that The Devil Wears Prada 2 never happened. Despite the 2006 film being a critical and financial hit, and even though the Devil Wears Prada book author wrote a sequel (Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns), the cast never seemed able (or interested) to get back together to make another film happen.

Recently, Hathaway seemed to add the definitive nail in the sequel coffin when she told the hosts of The View that continuing Andy, Emily, and Miranda’s stories wouldn’t make sense. So, The Devil Wears Prada fans will just have to content themselves with the pleasantly surprising reunion at the SAG Awards.
