2 New The Witcher Season 4 Characters Confirm A Massive Time Jump (& Can Fix A Huge Geralt Problem)

The Witcher season 4 will introduce two new characters that not only confirm a massive time jump this season, but they can also fix the show’s Geralt recast problem. Based on the book series of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski, Netflix The Witcher quickly became one of the streaming giant’s most popular TV shows. However, the many creative liberties the series has taken have also made The Witcher a divisive and controversial show. Season 3 fixed some of season 2’s mistakes and was more loyal to the source material, and The Witcher’s two final seasons are expected to continue that path.

Plot details about The Witcher season 4 haven’t been revealed, but this season has a lot to cover and will surely have some surprises for the audience. In addition to being the debut of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia, The Witcher season 4 will also introduce more characters from the books, both allies and enemies of Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer. Two, in particular, are hinting at season 4 having a massive time jump that can be greatly beneficial to the series, as it can give the best explanation for Geralt’s recast if the show chooses to address it.

The Witcher Season 4 Will Introduce Stribog & Nimue

Stribog & Nimue Are From A Different Time

The Witcher Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia with a spiral behind him

In a double announcement for the start of season 4’s production and that season 5 will be the show’s final one, Netflix shared a video of the first table read for The Witcher season 4. The main cast, along with confirmed new additions like Laurence Fishburne (who will play vampire Regis) can be seen in the video, along with some characters that hadn’t been officially announced by Netflix yet. The ones who stand out the most are Stribog and Nimue, whose presence had already been teased by an audition tape that was later made private (via Redanian Intelligence).

Although they don’t have main character roles in The Witcher books, Stribog and Nimue’s introduction in season 4 hints at a huge time jump due to their place in this universe. In the books, Stribog is a traveling storyteller and beggar, who entertains children with legends from the past, especially those about Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri. Among the children who were fascinated by Stribog’s stories was Nimue, who was inspired by these legends to become a mage and learn the true story of Yennefer, Ciri, and Geralt.

Stribog and Nimue’s presence means that The Witcher season 4 will feature a significant time jump in, at least, its first episode, as by the time Stribog tells Geralt’s story, it’s already considered a legend. Nimue’s introduction also points at season 4 or 5 featuring time travel, as in the novel The Lady of the Lake, she helps Ciri find the right portal to return to her time after being in the world of the Aen Elle elves.

Stribog & Nimue Offer The Best Solution To Geralt’s Recast

The Witcher Liam Hemsworth next to Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia

Stribog and Nimue’s introduction in Netflix’s The Witcher not only brings a time jump and time travel into the mix, but they also offer a great solution to the show’s Geralt recast problem. The Witcher season 4 will be the first with Liam Hemsworth as Geralt after Henry Cavill left the series, and there has been a lot of speculation on how The Witcher will explain its Geralt recast, if it chooses to do so. In that case, as Geralt’s story would be told through Stribog, this means it has been “filtered” through the years, so details like physical traits could change depending on who tells the story.

The Witcher

Based on the novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski and the video games, The Witcher follows the story of Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. “Ciri” Cirilla is the Princess of Cintra, who has magical abilities and whose fate has been linked to Geralt’s. Yennefer of Vengerberg, a sorceress who trains to become a mage before deserting her duties and going solo, is also a main character in the Netflix series. The show’s storylines are intertwined but told throughout different timelines, all of which eventually catch up to Ciri’s, whose timeline of events is the most recent. Set on the Continent where men, monsters, and elves exist together, the characters all have separate journeys, though their destinies bring them into each others’ orbits.
