2 More Disney Horror Remakes Get Filming Updates From Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood & Honey Producer

Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey producer Scott Jeffrey has offered an update on two upcoming horror remakes starring classic Disney characters. The slasher film starring Pooh became a financial success despite earning negative reviews from critics. It earned $5.2 million at the box office against a budget of $100,000, leading to the ongoing development of more dark takes on beloved children’s franchises.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about the upcoming Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, Jeffrey also provided an update on two other upcoming slashers, Bambi: The Reckoning and Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare. The producer revealed both movies will be going into production next year, with Bambi’s movie getting prioritized. Check out what Jeffrey had to say below:

We were actually meant to be shooting Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare but we weren’t quite ready with the script. I was meant to direct Bambi but switched to Peter Pan as it’s more my style. I’m pushing Peter Pan until April, and Bambi starts shooting in January. So we’re very much prepping right now. It’s going to be wild.

How Blood & Honey Started A Cinematic Universe

Jeffrey also stated, “Winnie-the-Pooh as a slasher is interesting. And with Peter Pan, we’ve got a Tinkerbell addicted to pixie dust like it’s heroin.” This accentuates just how twisted these new versions of the characters will be. While it’s unclear how the movies will measure up to events like Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey‘s gory ending, plans are clearly in motion to make each film uniquely dark.

Jeffrey went on to confirm Pooh, Peter Pan, and Bambi’s horror renditions all take place in the same universe. This means the success of the first Blood and Honey film paved the way for a cinematic universe featuring horrific versions of childhood icons. While this idea only includes Disney characters for now, it’s possible other recognizable faces will become killers in the future.

It should prove interesting to see how the upcoming Bambi and Peter Pan horror remakes compare to Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey. While it’s unclear if either will be as successful, the shared universe being planned around the movies means it could draw more audience members in. It remains to be seen just how big this franchise of dark reimaginings gets – and if all of them will be slasher films.
